Commissioner Hamiltons Gunboat 1808

Evidently quite a lot built during the Napoleonic wars for harbour raiding.  The hull is clinker built over a plaster plug , a feature of the kits produced by Modellbau De.  The boats were not a popular posting for the crew, there was only a small cabin for the Captain, the crew had to rough it out on deck with just the sail for shelter.

Even the Captain's cabin must have been a Rabbit hutch  {:-{ Mind you, she's well armed!

Yes , I think that when they put a match to the "big one" (24 pounder) everybody got a bad head.

I am sorry. I don't know who built this model but the rigging is way off the mark. As for the rest of the model, well built it may be, but a ship that clean never took to the sea.

I built the boat some years back . The rigging is as interpreted by the kit manufacturer , the only surviving data I know of is an unrigged model in the NMM . If you have advice how it should be I am sure the kit manufacturer would appreciate your delightful comments.
My understanding is that the rigging was arranged so that the masts and sail could be swiftly lowered together . The vessels often went in bare to attack using the sweeps to effect inconspicuous approach and then raised sail and masts to withdraw with all haste

Baldrick, I did not mean to offend you and the model is built to a very high standard. With regards to the rigging, all standing rigging (the ropes not meant to move) would have been tarred or painted to prevent them rotting. The rest, known as running rigging would have been left natural as this rigging was used to work the ship and was easily replaced.
