Well- ok - I cheated.
« on: August 19, 2018, 07:57:31 pm »

Greetings from this side of the pond.
I struggled for a while to add a boiler feed system to my "Greyhounds Revenge"
I covered the initial build and the subsequent build of her Stuart D10 plant previously.
After playing with a number of options:1. Building the Stuart Feed pump for the D10,
2. Fitting a different engine driven pump,3. adding an electrical driver pump,
I ended up using #3.
Why? - well first of all I did not have the room for the Stuart Pump right off the front of the engine.and then I tried to come up with a chain driven pump off the side.

Then I looked at pump housings I had to work with.
I picked a pump that came with a Maccsteam Boiler I got from "Myford Lathes" and added the eccentricdrive from a smaller microcosm pump for a smaller twin cylinder engine (in another boat).  I found that the
check-valve on the boiler was missing a ball-bearing, so I added a check valve i got from Jin.

Then I got a small 100 RPM Gearhead motor from Polulu in Las Vegas Nev. and added one of their
servo switches,  packaged everything together and built a box to hide it all in.

I used a 4-cell NIMH pack, with an LED and a charger connection.  The led will let me know it is running.
The result -
SUCCESS!
The twin tanks on the side of the engine hold enough water to refill the boiler from low-sight-glass to high-sight-glass.and the run time has doubled.  From 22 min to 45 min.

The displacement lubricator had just a little oil left, so lucked out on that point.

So here are some pictures.
Regards to all,Jim PopeDenver,COUSA

Bonjour James,
Beautiful launch indeed, I like the gun at the bow! 45 minutes is quite enough, especially because the D10 is a great oil and water consumer, so it is always god to stop the navigation after a while for the refills.
I confess I would have preferred the original Stuart pump, especially because an open lanch show the steam plant to the public, but I recognize you had no room for it.
About batteries, I have had problems with my previous NIMH ones because I never managed correctly charges and discharges, so they died quickly. Now I use 3S or 2S LiPO batteries with a 6V regulator as shown here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80mZYbYqQZE
A LIPO element means 3,7V, I was told that LIFE would be even better with 3,3V, but I have no experience on them.
PS : I can't wait to see her on a video with a nice use of the whistle  ok2
