I Love Warships
« on: August 25, 2018, 09:57:18 pm »

From Facebook....

The U.S. Navy heavy cruiser USS Minneapolis (CA-36) at Tulagi with torpedo damage received in the Battle of Tassafaronga, the night before. The photograph was taken on 1 December 1942, as work began to cut away the wreckage of her bow.

Lovely photos, but what on earth happened to the escort carrier with the distorted flight deck; Internal explosion perhaps?

USS Independence was used as a target vessel in the Bikini Atoll Atomic Bomb Testing in 1946, called Operation Crossroads.
