Hello Chris,

Thank you for the kind words.
The Fleetwood Club have "Schooner Racing" events, the main rule is - - No sail controls !!!.
They do as you do, set the sails to suit the conditions - - and away you go!.
With a little bit of practice it is amazing just how well a Yacht can sail without sail control.
It may mean sailing a slightly different course to get from A to B, but it does work.
I have sailed Bluenose at their events and had a steep learning curve !.

John.  :-)

Hello John

Well thanks for that, it is very encouraging to say nothing about making my life simpler. The Bawley is a really big and heavy lump and it takes a lot to put the gunwales under there is also the provision of sailing without the topsail and of course reefing. As you rightly say it makes for a fun time. O0 The only concession I have with the Bawley is a small motor driven prop that I can activate with the R/C which helps the boat through the wind if needed. Actually quite authentic as the later boats were built with donkeys and the earlier boats had donkeys fitted at times of upgrade. :-))
Best regards and thanks Chris G

I think free sailing boats are a lot of fun, a nice change from RC. I have a free sailing schooner, which I converted to a free-sailing brigantine. I also have a free sailing sandbagger. These two were built from kits:

Chris, do you have photos or a thread for your Bawley?
