And people wonder why going into space is so expensive!  "Kwiki Paint" (2 Coats for $95.99 inc tax) would be a much better bet.

An impressive process but you have to ask is it really necessary to be this clean? Itnot going to be used in the environs of the transport craft, its going to be ejected on to a 'dead' planet, so no chance of harming anything around it. Just a quick blow over with a rattle can would be enough,but then again, NASA wouldn't be able to account for billions of dollars in expenditure if they did stuff like that :}

You need a perfect paint job so no particles come adrift in zero-g and relocate themselves onto the delicate sensors or complex mechanical gubbins.

We once had a foreign goverment's team ask us why we painted everything black - it's because we're Rolling Stones fans...

It's potentially not dead, and spacecraft to Mars fall into the higher categories of the Planetary Protection protocols. This has all the details.
