What's Your Winter Project?
« on: November 07, 2018, 10:05:37 am »

With the long dark evenings ahead, what's your winter project? What will keep you going until the sailing pond thaws out?
I picked up a Dean's Liberty Ship from Fleabay that needs finishing/repairing. It looks mostly there but there's a surprising amount of work to do.

So many options it is difficult to focus. I have a good bit more I can do to Scarborough Shannon before shelving for warmer weather to finish painting.
Then an MBD Shannon to start
Also bits to complete on a Portgarth
A Smit Rotterdam over half built
A Maltby to start
A Esvagt rig support rescue vessel to start
I may run out of winters  :embarrassed:
Can I resist buying something else at Warwick  %%
Currently installing a new kitchen so no building at all for now  :((

That Liberty looks a good one  :-)

What's there is very good - it looks like it was a stalled project that sat in a garage gathering damage for a few years - lots of bent/broken details. Everything above the deck is loose - just balanced in position to see what's missing.

1)   Getting the electrics in garage fitted and working.
2)   Overhauling the front end of the XJS V12, i.e. re-coring the radiator, or fitting a new one, renewing the belts and hoses as required, overhauling alternator,    water pump, rack and other components as required.
3)   Later, probably going on into spring and summer, drop back sub-frame and overhaul or re-new rear brakes, disks, bushes etc.
4)   Do a bit of modelling stuff if I feel like it.

Building a trawler from Hobbies plan designed as a bread and butter hull. I've converted the plan to plank on frame. Stern is causing a few headaches. Onwards and sideways.  8)

Quartz worktops for me on the 14th. Almost finished fitting the kitchen with 2 built in fridges washer and dishwasher
An instant hot water tap will also replace the kettle.
A local company will do made to measure hob splash back and around the drinks station in a colour to be decided.Existing tiling retained.
Looking forwards to removing all the protective film
Once over this hurdle I can get back to boating  :-))

Hi all, I have an Inga yacht having a minor refurbish and new white sails fftted,  Also I bought a nicely made pair of yachts identical at 32 inches plus a 4 inch bowsprit.  THey have decks and will have rudders hanging off the stern.  I am thinking of setting them up identical and use them to race them with a simple RC unit that plugs into the deck.
I have to dispose of my faithful CR_V on Tuesday next, in favour of a Skoda Yeti, 1.2 auto outdoor, they look remarkably the same and the Yeti is nice and simple inside,  I drove my CR-V for 2 months short of eighteen years and we clocked up almost 100000 miles. So will be a togh farewell.
regards Roy

Come on Roy, I've just parted with my VW Polo after 15 years and 180,000 miles. Your CR-V is barely run in! The new Polo is bigger so it definitely won't fit in the garage, yipee! I've still got my workshop/storage area. If I fix the leak in the door I could have an indoor pool.

Oooo - very nice, the colour of most kitchens appears to very common nowadays - ours is the same as yours anthracite - ours from B & Q (like the avacado bathroom suites of old), though we are waiting to replace the doors after the work top is replaced to prevent damaging them - tomorrow is the big day for the change.

Scaling up a 1/700 waterline model of a Bogue class escort carrier to 1/144.  Making the 1/700 version is the easier bit!
