Has anybody built one of these???
« on: November 10, 2018, 01:25:00 am »

HI,
I've just received my new project.

It is a "Sea Imp 111", available from a few different traders in China, and I believe it could be a bit of a challenge!!!

I just attached a photo, wonder if it will work

Thanks
Mick

Not built one but have seen them advertised.
I have too many projects laying around to buy another kit at the moment.

Please post some more photos as you start building

There is no reason why it shouldn’t work. The working parts (radio gear, esc, motor, etc) are mostly up to you. Even supplied items get swapped out. If the hull leaks you can seal it, etc. You will ballast it. A bit of planning and even a bed pan can work.

HI Folks,

That post on the other rcgroups forum is a similar build to mine.

Buying the kit is a bit "hit and miss"

The photos sometimes show a fiberglass hull, sometimes they say it is a timber hull.

Maybe the manufacturer has changed the design!

Mine seems to be ply sheet over frames, and my kit comes with the laser cut superstructure, which the one in the forum doesn't have.

Everything is laser cut ply, 3D printed "bling" for the deck fittings, a pair of ball raced prop shafts, 2 RH propellers ,and 2 huge 5 pole motors.

I would love a link to a kit similar to mine, or may=be I can be the guinea pig and start one!

Thanks

Mick

Well Mick, if you start a build thread on here you will be able to ask as many questions as you like along the way, and I am sure you will get lots of answers and suggested solutions to any problems.

I got the impression, that the hit and miss aspect of buying from China via Ebay, is that
the original kit manufacturer sells a complete kit to other buyers in China, and they
immediately copy the kit, and sell lesser versions.

I can't imagine how that methodolgy could have started...  %)
