I should also add that your most excellent photo etching has made me find up and start reading my how to book I bought a few years back.

The process is quite simple but these days the chemicals are hard to get in NZ without a license.  I get mine PE done by PPDL in Scotland.

All good things come to an end, and I'm back to work on Monday after my summer break.

I've got to say that lounging around doing nothing is way more enjoyable than working, not sure how much longer this working full-time thing will last.

So, I have a few days to try and finish off the Tumeke. The ham and trifle are now just fond memories so I shouldn't have any distractions.

Not too much left to do now. I attached the fender strips and tyre fenders. Attaching the tyres by chain took a lot longer than it should have and needed a few tries at each one. Very frustrating when something that should be quick and easy goes wrong.

The engine room housing is now in place and it's starting to look like it should.

Next step: railings, and then the wheelhouse.

Well that all went together quite smoothly. Now it's all completed and consigned to the shelf.

Working on something this small also had its own challenges.
I'm mostly happy with how it turned out but I can see where I tried to take a few shortcuts. Hopefully I'll forget about them in a few months' time. It's amazing how quickly you forget about all of the tedious work and mistakes along the way. I look at some of my older models and have no idea how I managed to make them.

So – another project finished and I can start on the next – yahoo!!

Thanks for all of your comments.

During this build Allan from Hong Kong contacted me and asked about sharing my reference and drawings.

This is what he's made from those drawings and photos: a 1/24 RC version of the Tumeke. And he's made a pretty good job of it too.

Looks like there's at least one other person who doesn't think it's the ugliest tug in the world.

Howard: Send me your email address by PM and I'll send you everything I have.

I'd love to see one at 1/12.
