Pleased you have finaly got your hull Andy, you won't be disappointed she makes a great model. I am still working on my new plug for the Stevns Arctic, she is 4 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the Maltby, it has been a bit of a struggle working without hull line drawings but she is taking shape, i will be posting photos of the plug when i have her complete.

I’m certainly not! I have a good eye and I cannot fault it. I understand it was cast by Orion mouldings.
All I have learned whilst doing my Portgarth will be carried over but better  :-))
I may possibly do the whole deck in paxolin too

That is correct Andy, the Maltby hull was cast by Orion Mouldings (top man ) Orion Mouldings will be doing the moulds for my X-Bow plug, Grampian Defiance plug and my Stevns Arctic  :-))

I found out from Orion yesterday that he has given the plugs for Maltby etc back to Les so no more mouldings will be done by Orion.
I know of at least one Maltby hull buyer that is still waiting for his plan and photo CD from Les.
I have both and will try to get copies of the plan at work.

Michael Butler (Butts) who bought from Adam in Scotland. I will make sure you get these!

That's really kind of you Andy :-)) .

That said, Adam supplied plans for a Damen ASD 3111. The hull lends itself to that tug and it will a bit different from another Maltby so I intend to follow that route.  Watch this space :}

Hi Andy the Maltby hull is still being made by Orion for Tyne Models the only difference is Les is storing his moulds as Orion is getting tight for space.

:-))  Thanks Brian. Orion seemed to give an impression of permanency to this in my view but only time will tell.

What do you think to the concept of using two KMB jet drives to fire the port starboard bow thrusters rather than a traditional tunnel and props?
I have these in stock  %% 8)
I've decided to begin this in the new year and hope to introduce new ideas like full (not just hatches like my Portgarth) paxolin decking for a start

Interesting thought Andy, I guess it would make moving the tankers into harbour a lot easier %% .

I've gone a different route.  The Maltby hull is sufficiently wide that I have been able to fit two propshafts into the thruster tube. We'll see next year if it is effective. As yet it is on brushed motors, but I'm considering using brushless if it is underpowered.

I prefer trying to make the traditional bow thrusters Andy thats the part I enjoy when building a model. But at the end of the day its a model and it all depends on what you are going to do with it, you have been to Balne Moor and seen what the lads use as bow thrusters in the tugs, if you think the KMB jets would be OK for bow thrusters go for it. I have never worked with paxolin so don't really know how it would turn out I have used plastic card on all of my builds (old habits are hard to break)

I have been to Balne Moor watching the tug towing (quite a while ago) and the way your members have the bows thrusters setup are spot on for whats needed for towing, I don't see why yours yours won't work Butts. I have never used brushless motors but will be considering using them in my new build the Stevns Arctic, I will need some advice on these as I haven't any idea about them.

I'm confident it will work Brian, it's just whether it develops enough heft to shove the tanker
into the harbour.

My current tug has a 1500 kv brushless on the bow thruster and it certainly does the job :-))

Hi Jason,

Yes, mine is pretty much the same design as yours except I've got a propshaft going in each
direction, both with 35mm props.
I may alter the motors, but will wait until I've seen how it goes in sea trials.

I have 2 full metal 100mm Z drives on the way from OceanWorks and if they will fit, this build will be starting.
100mm is the Kort diameter.

Just FYI the Schottels I ordered were the reinforced nylon spec but OceanWorks have upgraded my order to full metal at no extra cost. Maybe this is a bit of a thank you for my input developing the jet drives or maybe because my posts may generate them more interest. Either way I win  :P

Unfortunately they will land at Gatwick and through ParcelForce while I'm on holiday but I look forward to coming home and showing them  :-))  and hope they don't mislay them  %%

Schottels cleared customs quickly and have been sat in Leeds delivery office since Wednesday 2nd.

Parcel farce send a letter to the delivery address with a note of the charges to be paid before delivery.
Do you suppose it ever crossed their minds that if no one is there the letter will not be responded to ? And perhaps they should try the email address provided or the phone number

I realise I never updated this.
Having received the schottels long since I quickly realised they were too big for this hull so they are in the bigger vessel

I'll be saving up for a smaller pair.
