Trying to finish my Nelson's Navy Convulsion - finding the rigging heavy going but have reached sheet 6 of 7 of the plans.


The yards make an appearance for the first time but I have no idea in what order to tackle things.



Don't really know how to upload images properly - but this should give an idea of where I've reached


Do I fix all the yards at once and start rigging or one at a time, rig and then the next? 
If one at a time then top down or bottom up?


Did have a search but couldn't find an obvious answer.

I remember once hearing a full size rigger saying you start from the inside and work outwards.

Start at the bottom and work upwards, and from the inside out.  Finish one yard before moving onto the next.  It doesn't really matter whether you do the main mast first or second, but you could start with whichever one you perceive as the easier. 

Nice model by the way - we see too few of this sort of craft here on Mayhem.  (If this style of model is your thing, are you aware of Model Ship World?)

I hope we get to see the completed Convulsion.

Not sure how the model will turn out - I may decide to simplify things a bit to get it over the line - then can move on to next project

Just checked - there are some Convulsion build logs in the Model Kit section of Model Ship World - you might have to register to see the photos, but it is worth it.  Also have a meander through the scratch build section - you will either be inspired or chuck all your model-making stuff in the bin in despair!  Some amazing builds on there, be prepared to lose a few hours of your life.

You need to attach all yards before starting the rigging as some are linked by rigging. Also remember that the standing rigging would appear black as it was tarred or painted. Running rigging is left natural as it works the ship. A good tip is to run your running rigging through a block of bees wax. It flattens the cord and makes it look more natural. A goo day model you have there.

Thought you might like to see how it's going.  Some progress - thanks for help and encouragement.


There's a couple of mistakes I'm not happy about - threads the wrong side of other threads - will see about fixing at some point.


And a lot of ratlines before I get to the mainmast yards.
