Thank you Howard.

No way will my wife tolerate the smell of paint spray Mark  <*< %%  I'll be beaten up.

Body filler and fusion adhesive are just about in the door which I should be thankful for  :embarrassed:

Morning Andy,

Quick question, what adhesive/method did you use to stick the 90 degree plastic fender housing strips to the hull side?

regards

Morning Ant
I used the green label Zap CA. This is fairly quick setting so I apply plenty to allow a bit of adjustment.
Doesn't need a continuous run of glue, better to glue it every inch or so and let each tack set before applying the next.

Having been forced to a remove a piece I'm confident it is more than strong enough.
You could finish off by applying the zapagap with a fine nozzle along the joint from above after.

Hi, just to say I think you are bang-on with the cyano for sticking the styrene strips on, when I do that on GRP substrate with zap cyano for sure, it tends to tear the GRP / gel coat as much as the plastic part afterwards.  I'm only just posting a slight warning because I see from the characteristic paint on the ends of spare strips in your pics (apart from the profile, which is characteristic to me also) those are perhaps Maquette strips rather than the likes of Evergreen / Slaters etc?  I had an ongoing experience through this year with a not cheap batch of Maquette polystyrene profiles and strips which just would not weld to any other polystyrene like it should with Plastic Weld, EMA or Tamiya solvent .  Am just saying as a heads-up as it was very frustrating things coming apart afterwards and one model keeps cracking ever since.  Try it yourself on any styrene-styrene materials with Maquette profiles to join just to be sure, they tend to look OK if the joint is made,  but might part after a week or so.  Just saying to test because it's not worth the hassle I've had with it!  Strangely, it's bonded OK elsewhere since but no rhyme nor reason, just common to Maquette profiles and nnyoyingly but beeficially, their material is much stiffer and harder than most other polystyrene profiles or strips, but more malleable in some respects and easier to sculpt sometimes without cracking!

Till receipt lists them as Raboesch but the stand is Marquette’s
I found this CA works better than styrene glues and sticks to brass too

Meanwhile I had ordered 2 x 25kg 180 degree servos from eBay China as two purchases to keep under £15 import limit.
They arrived together in separate packages and I just took it for granted that they were as described.
I tested them yesterday to find they are 90 degrees and a different model number so I submitted two return requests with photos
Overnight the seller refunded for both

I’m now beginning to envisage hull colour. I really really like that green, it’s the first thing that attracted me to Brian’s build.
However as I’m building nothing like I have total freedom 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Many distractions today so only a little progress.

The Proxxon FET is proving well cutting Paxolin

So I began mapping out the superstructure with up stands

Today I intend to finish the stern quarter gunwales.
I don't like cutting and filling so this is my way.
First I made the curved flats from styrene same thickness as the rest of the gunwale.
CA'd in place trimmed the outboard edge and fitted Tamiya tape as a guide to make parallel.

I then used styrene box section on the inner edge.

I will then focus on the remaining 10 wash ports  {:-{

Happy with that  :-)

I have absolutely no idea what the rib structure is like from this view. It's the sort of thing that has to be imagined as pictures just do not exist in the public domain.

Then I cut out the remaining 10 washports and made n fitted one frame  %%

Tired of this already  {:-{  only 9 more to do

I really like the break between the deck and the roller I think it sets the stern up nicely.  I can imagine that it would be very easy and probably easier to blend the two together - nice work!

Cheers Mark  :-)

I'm considering battery and ballast. Although having 3s Lipo ESC's I will probably use this as main power
https://www.completecareshop.co.uk/mobility-scooters/mobility-scooter-batteries/12v-50ah-mobility-scooter-battery

That weighs almost as much as Portgarth

I hope to do a leak test soon and motor full load test. Establishing the displacement is vital.

Thank you Bill  :-)

Today I tried the hull in the tub but as soon as started adding ballast up front I noticed the bow thruster install was leaking. My fault trying to be too clever. I've now removed the cover I'd made cleaned everything up and fully covered in stixall!

So at a loose end I thought I'd start my apprenticeship in Styrene superstructure ing  {-)

After seeking advice from a most excellent builder I've concluded anything goes.

I'm using 2mm for the deck level cabin. This has a central front stair and port/starboard stairs.

Spruce sticks very well to styrene with Zap  O0

{-) {-)  single malt in each funnel

Both stair slopes created and I'm hoping the 25mm wide stairs from modelboatbits will suit.

That's about the extent of the deck level cabin. Everything else is winches and towing gear.

I thought I'd give the interesting funnels a go today. I've downsized to 1.5mm sheet for these.

Mirror image almost there but it is now tea time and beer o'clock
FYI I have not used a single drop of styrene adhesive, it takes too long or fails for me. All construction is with Zap A Gap CA

She/he will be launched as the   "Matthew Thomas" maybe a trace of Stevn's  {-)

WHAT I NEED and many others
Is for some of our very experienced tug men to do a guide to a number of variations in winches and how to make then from scratch and or implement readily available components.

any offers?? I know you are out there  O0

Finished the funnel assemblies last night and fixed from below with self tappers. It's important that they match perfectly with each other more so than matching the drawings.

This morning I've started on the next level by making the floor outline to match the drawing and the funnels as fitted.

This too is all 1.5mm styrene. The intention is to make this a tailored sliding fit and again fix from below with screws.
