Not much today, spent most of it in bed but when I finally got going I tasked myself with a job set to fail.

Lucky for me I succeeded.
Drilling and tapping stainless steel twice and achieving symmetry armed only with a vice and battery drill was daunting.

Now I have a means of fixing some stubs to the lead.

A few more pictures in the gallery.
I have replaced the button head screw with CSK and the stubs are suitably shaped at the junction with the lead. The slight gap around the joint being filled with Zap a Gap and sanded. When painted tomorrow it will look like weld at worst.
I may mask off the internal arch before painting. GREEN of course  {-)

A somewhat slow day but creativity governs speed.
I primered the Bow lead
I satin lacquered the old men
I struggled with the hop ups to the windlass brakes but going ok now.

A sunny if cold day but I managed painting a piece at a time before quickly setting in front of the kitchen heater.
So a good splashing of Halfords appliance white on the previously applied Tamiya FINE primer

Now waiting for paint and parts deliveries

I've started what I have just found out is called a tugger winch. Available pictures are inadequate but I'm doing my best guess.

Thats very very precise and difficult to do and its a lovely job  O0 .  Mind you I stopped painting my fingers when Covid popped up and I had to buy some blue gloves  {-)   Otherwise I would still have multi coloured hands!

A bit more on the tugger winch. I made the drum this morning and next will be the brake.
However a delivery from a friend changed my plans today

The drum ends and motors really are a great match for my winches

The outboard motor is ace

No Stan all of this was printed for me by a friend. He doesn't want publicity but if you express an interest here in something specific he might get in touch if he feels like it.

That looks absolutely amazing! I have read several of your build threads @Taranis, and love your clean way of building these boats!

Thank you Ruud. Would you believe there are people out there who don't share your view? fortunately they are banned  {-)

I just got someone comment on my Bow winch on facebook. This is made of probably over 40 parts but because I just added three 3D parts he doesn't like it now  %%

What is the difference between white metal, plastic, brass, resin and 3D ? non when painted.

I would not believe that! But if it ever inflicts self doubt on you, I am happy to take that Boulogne Etaples off your hands Andy!

It is true  :-)

I have too many appreciative people to consider a single word from the idiots.

I recommend the Boulogne  O0  but I shall not sell her as she is my youngest daughter Rebecca Alice when I finally finish it.

The Lobster boat is a thoroughly fantastic model and I have another one to build yet. She is Shelley Ann my eldest daughter.

This build may likely be the Matt Thomas

Using a bit of scrap deck I've made a jig to help build the tugger winch cage. This will comprise of at least 20 soldered joints.

Some parts I painted in freezing conditions this morning are now dry and assembled. My friends 3D parts contribution look great painted.
Beware of forceful advice from self proclaimed expurts with 60 yrs experience, do what works for you! I do.

Hello Andy, Do the many winch parts you picture come as part of the kit or do you scratch make them.?
Also, am I correct to assume your "soldered" means  soft solder?
Very clean looking cage, I do like that.
