Closer inspection with tape measure tells me 40mm is achievable without crossing hull lines  :-))  I'm going to order this now and hopefully receive by new year  :-))

Only to ask ...you're happy to do bank transfer to them?  I really really like their stuff but my bank manager would just go nuts if I started doing unsecure payments like that again.  It's 2018 not 1998.  We have internet and banking security rammed down our throats at every chance, I cannot believe such an out-dated, unprotected payment method would be even considered these days?  Unfortunately I've been scammed a few times in the past -I am not so niave now to consider making the same mistakes again.

How did you even order from them anyway?  I'm not the only person who reports registration with them and recieving an activation code -which isn't recognised to enable the account, and then they don't answer to any E-Mails about accounts or products?

Many German sellers only take bank transfers by IBAN
So far Iíve not had a problem and this morning the transfer is advised as complete by Revolut.
With hobby lobby I had no problem creating an account and I put the item in my basket. When going to checkout it details payment terms and then when you continue it confirms the order with full details again for payment including shipping and generated an order reference number. Once they receive funds the order is processed to despatch

Another German seller Knupfer even posted before I paid as a recognised previous buyer

Edit having just logged into hobby lobby this morning it shows all my details my order as pending the reference number and the payment total.

Hello

What a pity the Stevns Arctic hull shape is here far from reality specially for the bow with strange chines - a friend of me was interested with this tug and there is no way to improve easily this shape.

Yes Brian is aware of this but for me that is all below the waterline and not a clincher.
Very good illustration thank you  :-))

I feel the GRP is very thick and the lines could be softened and changed with some internal reinforcement

The plug was built to look something like the Stevns Arctic or Ocean, as you know when I managed to get drawings of the vessel I could not get hull line drawings so the plug was built to my spec and not identical to the hull of the full-sized vessel. The drawings that I passed onto Anth when he decided to market the hull are GA drawings.  So, a bit of creative modelling will have to be done on the hull for it to look something like the Stevns Arctic or Stevns Ocean.

I should point out that the Portgarth hull is very very remotely like the actual Portgarth but still turned out ok

I'm following the subject about your Portgarth and I'm impressed with the quality of your work above the deck  - I understand better knowing that you do not pay too much attention below the waterline

Now I'm waiting the beginning of the superstructures construction for the Stevns Arctic.

I do pay attention below the waterline but there is a limit to what can be achieved when there are inaccuracies . At least the Orion Stevns is solid and symmetrical and as a last resort prepared to pay over £1000 for Z drives  %%  There will be a lot of new/alternative ways of doing things along the way. I like to get my models seaworthy well ahead of the superstructure. Once my decks are fitted with optimum access and the outlines of the superstructure created then the deckhouse level can begin

P.S. Thank you  :-))

Re: Stevns Arctic BUILD STAND
« Reply #39 on: December 29, 2018, 11:30:58 PM »

I've just made templates for bow and stern from cardboard to transfer to the plywood.
This like the Portgarth stand will eventually be a travel cart too.

This illustrates how good the overall symmetry is  :-))

Re: Orion mouldings Stevns Arctic Build : HOBBY LOBBY
« Reply #40 on: December 31, 2018, 09:18:24 AM »

Regarding my order from Hobby Lobby
I can now vouch for their authenticity despite having zero communication from them.
I paid on December 21st by bank transfer and given the Xmas period Iím happy that it arrived today by DHL  :-))

My only concern is that the pipe may be a little too short but I will overcome that.

EDIT after full inspection I find that the specified measurements are incorrect.
The overall diameter is 38mm and the propellers are just barely 30mm but can not be confused with the 32mm version.
I have just ordered a 38mm I.D. clear acrylic pipe 44mm O.D. this will allow me to fit this as a sliding fit and thus be removable if replacement is required. The pipe wall thickness will allow some flaring at the hull skin

Points to note about this drive unit.
There are no specifics provided or recommended of max RPM and no details of how it is assembled and sealed.
IMHO it seems far better quality than any of the Raboesch offerings for very little more money. In fact raboesch don't go up to this size.
I see now retrospectively that the brass tube rather than plastic goes up to larger diameters but I think I am content with my choice.

I'm thinking brushless motor for this

The picture above! the brass collar on the drive shaft has no grub screw so must be a machine press fit and it has a stainless thrust washer. The propellers both have 2 grub screws as well as the domed nut

The acrylic pipe I have ordered will be scalloped away like a rifle breach load to accept the plastic pipes rather than cut into port and starboard parts. This will ensure perfect alignment and be more solid.

The thruster looks good for the price I will be  making mine along the same lines, I don't think it will be any cheaper to make by the time you add up the cost of props bearings bevel gears brass, and prop drive shaft. This is the part of modelling that I enjoy.

Through facebook I discover these are made by Jedamski . They also do excellent Schottels but only up to 40mm currently. Incredible value.

The bowthruster
Crossflow rudder split tunnel plastic

Heart of our cross-flow rowing with split tunneling is the transmission unit, which is manufactured exclusively as all-metal design. PVC plastic pipes are on both sides pushed onto the massive gear unit. These are sealed by the modeler with the gear unit. The advantage of this embodiment is divided as this is easily adapt to the fuselage geometry in the good workability of the plastic pipes. The following features speak for themselves:
- Gear housing made of brass, glass bead blasted.
- Bevel gears made of metal.
- drive shaft of V2A, 2-bronze bearings.
- output shaft of V2A, bronze mounted.
- Propeller cast brass with high efficiency.
- lifetime lubrication of the gear unit.
Our cross-flow design rowing is a rock-solid construction that clearly stands out from the products on the market in terms of durability and performance guarantee. A once built into the hull of a valuable ship model crossflow rudder must not fail! Pay attention when buying one on a high quality product on which you enjoy throughout the life of your ship model.
Jedamski CROSS POWER STEERING will not let you down!

There are some great internet finds there - The engineering looks beautiful and I would say well worth the price too!

Continued.
Converted to 12 mm ply and contoured to hull skin.
Hull now sits level and square bow to stern. I have made the sides overlap my island bench so it stays put.

This is the idea of the stand that becomes a transporter. The Stevns cart will eventually be covered in finishing resin and glass cloth so it can be wheeled down a launching ramp where possible

I more recently realised it can carry other boats too

Having perused the drawing I have marked the bow thruster approximately
The Bowthruster unit I purchased scales off nicely with 30mm propellers.
