Just arrived from hosemaster. I can bend it the other way to conceal the lines

Also arrived today.
I have loads of Makita LXT tools so 9 batteries kicking about.
This clever fella dreamt up these stealth mounts that can also be worn on a work belt.

Looking ahead to the big bow fender fitting

My first course is deck fitting (paxolin) I am doing it different this time. A very successful Portgarth project largely due to Chipchase advice but this time slightly different.
Rather than line the bulwarks with styrene first then fit the deck, I will this time fit the paxolin deck and line the bulwark with styrene which will conceal the deck to hull joints.
Looking at real photos of the Stevns there are holes spaced around the main fender location that will accommodate screws from inboard into the 35mm hose. Hex head screws may be more realistic.

Bow thruster drive shaft is 3mm
Using this as a guide to potentially suitable motors I've ordered this for trials or stock

After a long break this is now the Heinz version of something resembling nothing like a Stevn's Arctic.

Rather than go to great lengths to remodel the bow it will be a compromise.

Schottels are being fitted @ https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,65667.msg700928.html#msg700928
The bow thruster will be Heath Robinson

Today I've glassed in a pipe big enough to span the oversize bow

The bow thruster will squeeze into the pre prepared slot

Once the white pipe is finished flush with the hull skin I will make the grey tubes as short as possible

I missed this picture yesterday.   I've been thinking of a name for her.  %% .  How about Hogwash  :-)

40mm ID waste pipe is the largest that will fit without crossing the hull lines

A bit of filling to do

Function over beauty unfortunately but unseen in the water.

I could shorten these further but at this length I have enough to play with if I need to dismantle from the hull in future.

This hull really is BIG and my notions of shortening it really are a non starter.
This is Peterel and probably a sister ship to kittiwake.
This will form the basis of my build but due to the hull size I may have to work on 1:24 scale for this much smaller tug.

Maybe of interest? The really excellent bow thruster (untried) has caught the attention of OceanWorks sufficiently to spur them to come up with their version. I look forwards to their attempts  :-)

I think mine is made by Jadamski

EDIT
I'm waiting for 30kg servos and brushless ESC's after which this can be tested in the tank to establish load currents.
I may need a bag of cement for ballast  %%

Bow thruster continued.
Another opportunity to make a coupling  :-)

This pipe cover will be fitted with silicon in the end.

Paxolin again used for mounting

Set in 30 min epoxy

Marked out as best I can for the anchor ports. These will be made from thick styrene and as they'll be glassed inside I will sand the surrounding outside area flat and make good with filler.

Hello Andy ,

How do you plan to drive your schottels ? , with a normal radio without return to zero for the schottels, or do you plan to install the IMTH system ?

Glassed these in last night but now I need a major basket shop at Halfords, I'm completely out of red primer and satin laquer

Trimed my work stand down so I can see the keel

Still waiting for Servos and ESC's to arrive then ready for tank testing. OceanWorks recommended 120amp ESC but I want to prove the max current for myself and I doubt they will top 40 amps in this application. Outrunner amperages are based on driving aero props not boats

Today I felt the need to sort out these out is they didn't quite match both sides. The sanding made the angle more defined too.

I've now begun the foredeck supports. Using 1/2" square spruce and stixall. Spruce lats to identify top surface of deck.

Side supports fitted with scraps of 6mm paxolin as spacers for actual deck.

As per the first photo in the previous post, had I not reshaped it I would have had a twisted or sloping deck (port to starboard) at this stage.

Moving on as I started doing the aft deck supports it became obvious that my drives were not precisely at 90 degrees to the keel. Fortunately my installation method of using Stixall made it a relatively painless affair to completely remove and elongate one of the holes through the hull just enough to correct the error.

That behind me I began fitting deck supports.

Fordeck is only dry fitted pending supports fitting at the front. I can't fit until my Anchors arrive and I can fit the chain tubes.
I should be able to easily access the bow thruster for any repairs. Fitting this deck section as one piece entails springing the hull sides outwards.

A bit more today but I'm about done as I need to leave the adhesive to harden.

I found a good way to fit the foremost deck support was to fit the deck under the side supports then glue it with the deck as a level.

More supports fitted.

This morning I made and fitted a stern bulkhead.

Then my 60mm hall anchors arrived.

I had to remodel the housings as they weren't deep enough.

I then fitted tubes that will carry a thinner tube through to the deck

More deck supports fitted.

An impressive build, I learned a lot from the installation of the thrusters - thank you
