I wasnt happy with the vent surrounds and I managed to seperate the backing pieces to reduce the tickness.

One thing lead to another and the door was an easy target copying photos
1.5mm styrene sheet and a square profile surround.
1mm brass for hing points
This is drilled to accept a 10mm stock port hole

Looking at other doors I've patterned four for future and focused on the stern one. It has two black partial circles on the edge but I've no idea what they are for?

1.5mm sheet on 0.5mm for this subject.

I've not worked out the hinges yet so dry fitted.

My solution to hinges was round styrene rod and flat strip followed by a scotchbrite pad to smooth the way

Hi Andy you will probably find the black circles are are just painted where the dogging handles are for closing the door probably painted black because there on the working deck and would always be greased up and dirty there would always be at least two if not more on each door cheers nice build

Hey thanks for taking the time for that  :-)
Having found later pictures of the vessel in the Ocean colour scheme where the door is completely white I can see the handles you mention.  :-))

Cheers and thanks for reading

Hmm, I posted the same just after breakfast but the post has been deleted? Still got the text on my clipboard...

" Not clear on that pic but on another I found I think I can just see they are painted behind the dogs for securing the door. Black handle on a black background, and not painted that way on all the pics. Seems a bit counter intuitive as handles are often painted in contrasting colours to show whether the door is secured or not."

Bonjour ,

  I have a remark to do .

I worked for 21 years on cgg's seismic vessel and was them transferred to the armament and equipment department of that company where I stayed for 14 years before retiring . Often the halfblack circle were made to avoid dirtying the white paint of the doors with our dirty hands . For the handles when the watertight door is closed at the sea station the bottom and the top handles of the door are closed when they are vertical and the side handles are closed when they are horizontal .

I view of how easily the roof is separated and currently still very lightweight. This will offer permanent access for detailing the wheelhouse.

Hi, bit off topic but did you ever find a source for the old style squadron putty in the end?  I bought a bunch of testors tubes but theyre not quite like the stuff I've had before either.

No and very sad but no more probably due to ingredients no longer permitted.
Model Shop Leeds no longer stock it in the new guise as customers report it is crap

Today I've ordered 2 12 volt 20ah batteries from Tanya
https://www.tayna.co.uk/mobility-batteries/powerline/pl20-12/
One for each motor. The bow thruster and ESC's will have their own LiPos

Fitted a 6mm paxolin sheet on a full tube of Stixall to spread the load.

Access is great as it takes only moments to remove parts

Batteries are expected Friday so I can do a full load current test this weekend

I realise you have the anti slip pieces on the paxolin sheet, but will you tie it down also, in case it did move from a large bow wave from another vessel?

No they won't move. Smaller batteries never moved in Portgarth.
Other vessels will be far more concerned about my bow wave  {-)

I've made a shield over the gears so that when water gets in it is not distributed everywhere but will just trickle away to the volumous keel for evacuation by bilge pump

The ESC''s are waterproof and fan cooled but to be honest I doubt they will break sweat. Anyway they are fixed with double sided tape to the hull skin that will also be cold.

The battery tray is overly long to allow for balancing fore or aft.
Probably load test this Saturday

Thanks David.

Today was the day

Batteries came this morning

Despite all and added lead I'm still an inch out of the water. I will make removable ballast with handles

So the max current was established as 21 amps and no leaks.
I demoted the bow thruster to 2s LiPo for the sake of longevity of shaft and seals.

Now working on the floor as the closest simulation of being lakeside. I have to have a straightforwards easy routine of loading and unloading whilst tethered to the bank.
I was thinking of fitting handles to the batteries but then recalled I had a tile lifter from pre retirement.
It holds for a long time if you clean the battery label off  :-))

These batteries are a little shy on weight over a better brand name by 500 grams each but still weigh 5.4kg. Only get what you pay for but they will do for next year

Ultimately I'll need a sizeable collection of these

For the time being I'm working on a place for everything.
Shelf and retainer for bow thruster LiPo

Now on the other side will be a 3s LiPo for receiver/servos

Continuing the fit out.
First this is the radio I will use. I've ordered 20mm diameter radio knobs to replace these on 6mm spline. I've opened the unit up and set friction to both sticks so throttles will stay where I put them individually

Pocket for other LiPo fitted and shown is the HV 7.4 volt BEC

Bulkhead fitted to mount inline fuses at 25amp (action electronics)
Waiting for XT60 panel mount plugs to complete

ESC switches fitted within the limit of supplied cable length. I will be fitting a concealed receiver switch on deck.

Cheap and effective

You've got me a bit confused here. You are using a 3S pack for the radio then using a 7.4V BEC to reduce the voltage. Why not just use a 2S pack to start with as this is 7.4V. (HV receivers and servos are designed to run off of a 2S pack without a BEC. Using the BEC gives another possible failure point which can be removed with a 2S pack.)
