My model is built to 1/35 scale slightly larger than ojays it carries two 7.2 volt 30000 n mhi batteries with no problems. Fitting a lipo may be fine but more ballast will be needed. Why not go 2/3 sub c packs I think the original Glynn Guest plan was scaled at 1/72.

High capacity AAA NiMh cells are a poor choice to provide power to motors. They have a high internal resistance so are incapable of providing higher currents without a high voltage drop. They are designed to power electronics with a low current draw.

Jim
I wish somebody had told me that before I did it and found out that they work, albeit in a boat running rather less motor.
But it was a slip of the finger, should have been AA cells.
The string of 5 AAA was in a boat powered by a servo motor, duration was over 1 hour, enough to get round the 1 mile of lake side and then mess about a bit.  Since replaced by a pair of 18650 Li-Ion cells in holders connected through a harness and working the boat via a 5A UBEC.  The labels claim 9800 mAH.  Obviously low C rating, but I haven't had the opportunity for a proper trial yet.

The Glynn Guest plan is a standoff 1/48 scale.
Looking at photo's of the real thing, the 1/48 Huey appears to be about the correct scale for the vessel.

Wow, very impressive.
Is it an A.T.C.H. or one of the monitors.
I quite fancy doing an Erma Douche water canon version some time.

You have far more detail than I have managed to do on mine.

I see your also like myself an 'Action' electronics person.
I have used their products on all my builds except this one so far

I have no idea what happened to my earlier post on this thread with pictures of Stan Reffins example of this model so let's try again and hope that these don't mysteriously disappear.
