....also, please don't chuck things like banana skins, apple cores out etc!.  There have been studies shown a banana skin takes up to 2-3 years to decompose, the environmentalists say and I agree with them it's absolutely no excuse to chuck them over the hedge!!!!!
Maybe our daughter can take her horse over after lockdown.   Banana peel and apples don't last more than 30 seconds after he grabs them

Hi Peter nice to hear from you.  Thanks for the info, I get the Qantas frequent flyer emails but did not know the 380's were leaving the scene. My son told me about the one a/c per day into Sydney and 14 days quarantine is not on as far as I am concerned.  Bit like doing Jankers in the forces!
Andrew reckons it might well be September 2021 before my next visit.  Apart from the heady delights of living in Hertfordshire the next best place is Woy Woy!  Mainly for the view of course and those lovely beaches.
regards
Roy

Roy, it could be quite a while before international tourism gets going again, maybe even until a vaccine is developed. We'll just have to wait and see.

It seems that the A380 was not as popular as originally hoped, Singapore Airlines has announced that they will be progressively retiring their fleet, although Emirates, who are biggest operators of the type, say they have no intention of doing likewise. Airbus has announced that it will cease production of the A380 in 2021. It seems that the ultra long range and fuel efficiency of the big twins, particularly the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350, are making the bigger aircraft less popular. Qantas has already done non-stop flights between Sydney and London, and Sydney and Los Angeles, with their 787-9s, although they were lightly loaded.

Emerates fill there planes though, seeing 500 passengers several times a day, can you see them flying just the other planes, they would have to double the slots to replace the 380's, though more passengers, its the number of slots available into dubia etc and the extra pilots needed, though Thomas Cook, Flybe and the laid off BA virgin crews could fill that gap - just my opinion  :D

I saw a report on this which suggested that the A380s were built with the hub and feeder system in mind whereby the hub airports accept feeder flights from provincial airports and then fly to another hub where passengers transfer to local flights.

The big twins apparently offer more flexibility with long range direct flights which can be better geared to demand.

There is obviously still a market for the hub model on major routes but it seems that airlines are moving away from this as a universal practice.

There is also now a big if over the extent to which international business travel will recover now tht companies have been forced to resort to video meetings due to the Covid crisis. Some are seeing big permanent savings in this area.

Hi Peter I watched a documentary about how the 380 was not the way to go and why it was ceasing production.  However do I want a 22+ hour non-stop flight?

The enforced break at Singapore did mean you could sort yourself out again in more comfort than the on-board facilities.

I used to develop a limp and go in the disabled toilets!  Then a quick freshen up and change of clothes which I can not really do in the a/c toilets there is just not enough room for the old codgers with aches and limited bending ability.  I can touch my toes still but not for long enough to tie up shoe laces!
I find a sleeping pill helps pass 6 hours or so but it is tiring just sittting there.  I believe they frown on you going for a walk as well now.  I did do one 14 hour leg of the journey without going for a walk and could not get my shoes on afterwards!  I ditch my shoes asap and wear loafers during the flight now.
Oh well in steerage ours not to reason why etc.

One aspect in this Covid laden world we have today is :-

The Boeing 787 has the healthiest air of any commercial plane, thanks to filters with an efficiency of 99.97 percent. Humidity too is substantially higher. The plane’s all-composite structure is less susceptible to condensation, and a unique circulation system pumps dry air through the lining between the cabin walls and exterior skin.

Regarding speed limits and motor homes
Vehicles over 3.05 ton are restricted to 50mph on single carriageways and 60 on dual carriageways. Most abide by this to the frustration of those wanting to go faster. I see 40 ton trucks in Scotland habitually ignoring this. The biggest delays are caused by farmers going about their work.
Edit
So far I have not witnessed even one car sitting on my back bumper nor any signs of impatience whilst travelling north of the border.

I think it’s over 18months now since I worked and this years situation has caused me to put so many more hours into modelling that it’s almost an obsession. Given a choice I would not be on holiday  %%
Only 9 days to go  :-)

40 months to state pension and counting

Edit
Also applies to cars towing caravans

An Indian summer is rumoured
I need to focus on the Shannon and spray painting days before I end up leaving it to next year. The Riva is an indoor job so not weather dependant.
Nice to get one finished before the ponds freeze over  {-)

I don't know about an Indian summer but am just hoping for good weather for next week. Have booked for 3 nights in Oban with the plan to do some riding around some of the back roads and visiting places I've never been or just passed through in the past. Will give some more experience on driving my new wheels that I bought about a month ago. Can-Am Spyder RT Limited.

Hi Jim does the trike have reverse?  I have a motor cycle license but not had a bike for a long long while now.
Sound like a great way to travel, I used to be wrapped up for all weathers when I was biking, nothing special in my case.  I had an Ariel Leader 250 twin 2 stroke.   Very safe ride with trailing link front suspension. Always enjoyed it as did my wife on pillion.

She would never admit it she loved the whistles that followed us!  Well, she would wear short shorts.

Ah! the good old non-PC days!

Roy it's a semi automatic 6 gears with reverse and a 1330 cc engine. Drivable on a full Bike licence or Car licence if passed before the change in qualification. Very different to my bike in handling and steering but starting to get used to it now.
Nemesis , no idea of top speed but it does 70 easily. The large discs are probably more for the weight as its fully loaded weight is 750Kg but it does give good braking, all brakes are on a foot pedal no brake lever on the handlebar.Taranis, really enjoying it as it is very comfortable to ride with a seating position like an armchair.
