Tattinger chapagne is available in Sainsburys at £27 for 750 cl. But the best lately has been the 2006 vintage.
I have tasted the very expensive ones though, would you believe a Nebukadnezzer at £2000 a bottle! These pricey ones are quite different to what us hoy polloy are offered.
By the way Vintage just means that the vinyard has declared the grape harvest as very good, There are almost equally good champagnes from non-vintage years.
Also when you see a strategically placed bottle of wine in a good film this has cost the grower of the grapes an arm and a leg to get it there! Product Placement they call it.
The grower told me it cost £50K to get the bottle of red wine on the table of the dining car when Bond talks to Vesper in Casino Royale. It was a very nice wine I tasted the years before and after and they were excellent. It put his wines on the map and was worth every penny!
