I find it interesting that your dad's service number is in the 14 million group. Mine 40 yrs ago is in the 24 million group. I wonder where that stands today  %%

Assumed it was service no?

Today is the fourth anniversary of resuming model boat building after a 44yr gap.
The Smitt Rotterdam that I began this day 4yrs ago is still not complete  {-)

Seeing my last couple of working years out working mostly part time and giving up work completely well over a year ago I think I've probably crammed a decades worth of modelling time in.

We are really looking forwards to a break when this C19 is over if ever. "Wishful thinking"

Fancy doing lots of heritage railway journeys  O0

Yesterday I watched a Viking cruise from Harwich to the Fiords on a brand new Viking cruise ship. Thats on the bucket list

We are shopping at M&S tomorrow! a rare occurrence but this is two weeks in a row. As far as wifey is concerned the future is so uncertain that she doesn't want to skimp at Aldi just in case.
There's a huge difference in price but there is no doubt it is quality pre prepared meals and it makes her life easier.
We found an M&S that is food only in a retail park that is barely visited lately due to lockdown. Last week there were about 6 other shoppers in at the time we visited.

We had planned a trip on the Jacobite steam train (Fort William to Mallaig and back) last summer.  Much shorter trip and maybe a cup of tea and cake in 1st class but alas not to be <:( .  Still on the wish list for the future because the scenery is spectacular.

With you there Raiph, on our wish list.
Twice I've travelled that way in the motorhome and twice I've lost a wing mirror due to white van man and ended up in Morrisons car park in Fort William to tape it up. Meanwhile the steam train in the station behind us.

When I think back to my school days we travelled from Glasgow to Fort William and on to Mallaig with no thought of nostalgia as it was right up to date  {-)

On our first visit to the UK, way back in 1993, we drove from Fort William to Mallaig and back, also in a motor home. The scenery was quite stunning, all the more so because of the beautiful weather we experienced. I well remember seeing one of the iconic Caledonian MacBrayne ferries arriving in Mallaig while we were there. I would love to have had the opportunity to travel on the Jacobite but, sadly, my overseas travel days are well behind me.

Hi Ralph, was at Oban for a few days last September and did a run out to Mallaig and back. The steam train was in the station at Mallaig and the town was full of passengers. The run out to Mallaig was different from the usual main road and was over shall we say interesting roads. Took the Corran ferry  then went south to the B8043 round the coast to the A884 north to the main road to Mallaig. Mostly all single track road even the A road, anywhere else the B road would have been unclassified, the A road was differentiated by being wider. However for much of the route the scenery was great. took the main road back to Fort William, great scenery but less interesting riding. The third photo was near the start of the B8043, it got more interesting further on.

As young teenagers we went to what I believe was called garamor YHA not sure of the spelling and I think it closed a long time ago. It was just a few miles down the coast from Mallaig and access to the beach was over huge sand dunes. The sand was so soft that we were diving and rolling down the other side. This would have been about 1972

EDIT
I think I've found it

Hi Jim,

take it the new bike is going OK then?  Last used the Corran ferry about 15 months ago on the way back from Mull when we took the Kilchoan ferry over to Ardnamurchan.  As you say even the A class roads are single track with passing places, grass down the middle at times.

Used to go up by Mallaig in my teens cycling and walking, I remember a youth hostel at Morar, probably the same one you mention Tarranis as the silver sand beaches at Morar were nearby.  Even took the train (but not the steam one) up to Mallaig once with our bikes in the guards van.  That was one memorable Easter the weather was really bad, we had cycled from Crianlarich across Rannoch Moor, down Glen Coe and up to Fort William in a blizzard.  Needed a break from the weather but had to get to Mallaig for the Skye ferry so on the train after stopping off overnight at Fort William YH.  At least we weren't camping that trip!

Ralph
Going great Ralph although not getting much chance to use it at the moment, only getting out for shopping. Waiting for some better weather to let me fit a new tow hitch and electrics to let me get the trailer back on  the road. Still too cold to work outside on it.
(To let you see what the B road was like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG0o_aXFov4&t=1s )

It is that compare the meerkat time of year again.
I have completely washed my hands of Hastings Direct and their other guises, I don't think they are even in UK anymore. Customer service I have found completely incompetent and the continuity of any complaint is broken by being replied to by a different person every time.
Despite literally dozens of emails they completely failed to enable my access to "My Account" either online or via the app.
The other issue is common to many insurers in that at renewal they don't give you the best price!!
My renewal invite was £234 but the same policy with them on comparison site was £212.

SO I moved back to the AA at not much more.
Yesterday I got a letter of apology from head of customer relations (Hastings) after a thorough investigation they refunded me £40 but too late to keep my business. I doubt I will use them again as in the unlikely event of a claim I can just imagine the dire communication and action.

Next today was the wifes renewal with Hastings and again much cheaper on compare the meerkat than the renewal offer.
She moved to the AA at £40 less so another result.

BTW we have both reduced our estimated mileage to 4k and since retiring we don't do anything like it, probably 1,500 each.

The Meerkat rewards are pretty much rendered obsolete by COVID as we won't eat out or go to the cinema for a very long time

Re: Retirement COVID vaccination
« Reply #795 on: February 05, 2021, 03:53:05 pm »

I've just sorted out my mother and her dependant man friend (dementia) with their COVID appointments. Very confusing for her and no follow up from NHS as to why she hasn't made appointments.
It took me about 20 mins on the phone to get 2 appointments each at the same place and time.
So on Monday I can transport them both to Elland Road FC for their first jabs with only 5 mins between them and again on April 28th

Is that what the jet washer does to your arm then?
I've just bought one myself but haven't had time to use it yet, hope I don't get gimped too!

Started power washing my rather large deck yesterday.  Only managed about 1/10 of it before I smelt worrying smells and heard worrying noises from the washer, quickly followed by a graunching sound and total failure.  To be fair, it was a cheap model bought a good while ago, but it could have waited a couple of hours before giving up!  {:-{

New one on order so I'm looking forward to a delivery early next week.  :-)

I’m in desperate need of a hot soak in Radox, the bath is running.

My washer is a lowly Nilfisk c110.4 a few years old now and going well still.
I paid about £80 delivered. If it fails it will retire to the recycle dump

It’s probably all the scrubbing with deck cleaner that has caused the aches
