William is the splitting image of our Henry, a gorgeous dog who was 9 yrs old 2 months ago. Still full of life.

It has taken a few months for him to transition from a working dog to a pet. He's also had a major operation to remove a cancer from his thigh this Winter. The scar will never be hidden even by his double winter coat.
He's highly intelligent/crafty/cheeky and his personality has really come out now he's learnt that he's safe secure and part of the pack. He's so keen and fast to retrieve but he won't drop the ball until he has his breath back incase you throw it again straight away  {-)  Unfortunately as a Labrador he will eat anything and everything he comes across when out on a walk no matter what you shout at him.
His mother pampers him with pawfume called D.O.G so he always smells fresh  {-)

Andy, if you are serious about the Mercantic see if you can get one of these, "best-No.330/ order No 330/ ref No 330" it is a Graupner product, recommended by my Aussie friends as a replacement for the Billings windlass, which is not very good. I have fitted two and they look like a windlass/winch. nemesis

Hi Andy, It is a four blade prop @ 45mm, motor is a 555, on 12v or three LiPos. I had the feeling about the winch/windless but do not fret, when the time is right I will send you my spare. bill

Still no sign of it at this end with Herpes.

I will order a prop  :-))

555 Mabuchi is what I fitted x2 in Rotterdam

Thanks Bill
It’s arrived and I’m sorting the wheat from the chaff.
The kit box has a £5 something price sticker
The fitting kit with the masts has Beatties trains and cars £3.07
This must have been sold around the time of decimalisation

I think much of the wood will have to be replaced and whoever had a go at cutting the parts out was not very adept.

I just paid £30 for the missing parts from CMB. This is why I bid with low offers. I could have added that to my previous post were it not for editing restrictions  :((

Andy, See if you can get hold of Laurie White and see if he has two cargo winches for the Caspar left in stock. I used them on my Mercantic as the are better. Sorry I do not have them in my stock. Yes, you may have to replace the timbers, they seemed to use a mahogany type of wood which was quite brittle. Another pain was the block stern, to get it symmetrical in the shape required. Bill

I believe Lawrie no longer has any Model Slipway stock items. Maybe not best to get in touch with him just at the moment following the loss of Jackie.

Thanks Bill
Stan is in regular contact with Lawrie and he will let me know when Lawrie is ready for clearing the many parts.
As Colin said please don't contact Slipway personally. The website and email will not work anyway.

I won't have any trouble with the block stern, my eye for symmetry is 20/20 and asymmetry is a pet hate.  :}

I changed my mind! Just enough left in the bottle to join you   O0

After 48 days since March without a drink I've concluded I've lost no weight and feel no better for it other than a big cash saving  %%

So I'm not enjoying my retirement as I should. I'm now going to drink as I wish on Fri Sat Sun  :-)

Andy, I have found the kit masts for the Mercantic. The reason I did not use them is that they are turned from solid, to save weight I had made mine out of tubing. If you have not got them I will send them on. Winch went off today, sorry for the delay as I did not have any jiffy bags and the postie is 30mins away. bill

Thank you Bill
I think my kit masts are tubes but to be honest they’re not very well done so I’ll probably strip all the flakey paint off and see what the score is.
I ordered ply from SLEC today to remake all the frames and keel.
I’ve had to coat both sides of all the mahogany with dilute resin to keep them from falling apart along the grain.
They’ll all be converted to Birch ply

I've finally reached the age or my mother has where life changes from just day to day bliss to confusion and sadness.
From now for as long as it takes modelling is on the back burner.
Fortunately my mother experienced enough through her past and 4 decades of nursing to have had the forethought to put in place LPOA's in 2019. These are going to be all important as she loses her mind.
There must be many of our older members experiencing or have gone through this.
She has helped other people all her life and I'm not going to neglect my responsibility in her coming years through thick and thin.
Most recently she has cared for her male companion of 10 years right to the point that he has had to go into permanent dementia care.
She also kept 5 cats that were hand me downs from other relatives and she could not keep up with them to the point they were defecating everywhere.
These are now all re homed. The previous weeks to date have been spent gutting her bungalow to try eradicate the smell (my mother lost her sense of smell)
Today the first of new carpets went down in the bedrooms along with new furniture. That's half the house done but the more time I spend with her the more I realise how much her memory comes and goes.
All we can do is one day at a time and accept the good and the bad moments.

I must add that I'm blessed with a very helpful and understanding wife without whom I would struggle. Woman to woman things are best kept that way for dignity.

I think many people may encounter issues with banks and taking control but I have found Halifax fraud department extremely helpful and sympathetic. Tomorrow I will submit a certified copy of Lasting power of attorney to register with her account.
There is no way an elderly person can deal with online banking etc but I can do it all for her from a simple App.
All she needs is her card for tap and go. She has already lost it twice but with the app I can freeze her card until we find it.

Feel free to share your experience or ask advice as limited as my knowledge base is.

I have found that there are issues with how long things take to get done due to retail demand.
I've had to wait 12 days for carpet fitting.
I had to use IKEA for bed and bedding delivery 3 days  :-))
The waiting time was not wasted as it gave space for re decorating and getting rid of soiled carpets etc
Due to Covid local waste recycling has to be booked in advance. I've had 5 trips so far with all the back seats removed.

Dunhelm furniture, delivery a few days.

Thank GOD "Martin" for extended editing time
