I've finally reached the age or my mother has where life changes from just day to day bliss to confusion and sadness.
From now for as long as it takes modelling is on the back burner.
Fortunately my mother experienced enough through her past and 4 decades of nursing to have had the forethought to put in place LPOA's in 2019. These are going to be all important as she loses her mind.
There must be many of our older members experiencing or have gone through this.
She has helped other people all her life and I'm not going to neglect my responsibility in her coming years through thick and thin.
Most recently she has cared for her male companion of 10 years right to the point that he has had to go into permanent dementia care.
She also kept 5 cats that were hand me downs from other relatives and she could not keep up with them to the point they were defecating everywhere.
These are now all re homed. The previous weeks to date have been spent gutting her bungalow to try eradicate the smell (my mother lost her sense of smell)
Today the first of new carpets went down in the bedrooms along with new furniture. That's half the house done but the more time I spend with her the more I realise how much her memory comes and goes.
All we can do is one day at a time and accept the good and the bad moments.
I must add that I'm blessed with a very helpful and understanding wife without whom I would struggle. Woman to woman things are best kept that way for dignity.
I think many people may encounter issues with banks and taking control but I have found Halifax fraud department extremely helpful and sympathetic. Tomorrow I will submit a certified copy of Lasting power of attorney to register with her account.
There is no way an elderly person can deal with online banking etc but I can do it all for her from a simple App.
All she needs is her card for tap and go. She has already lost it twice but with the app I can freeze her card until we find it.
Feel free to share your experience or ask advice as limited as my knowledge base is.
I have found that there are issues with how long things take to get done due to retail demand.
I've had to wait 12 days for carpet fitting.
I had to use IKEA for bed and bedding delivery 3 days
The waiting time was not wasted as it gave space for re decorating and getting rid of soiled carpets etc
Due to Covid local waste recycling has to be booked in advance. I've had 5 trips so far with all the back seats removed.
Dunhelm furniture, delivery a few days.
Thank GOD "Martin" for extended editing time
