I have always scanned our passports and printed out copies. Colour photocopying works too.

Australian authorities recommend you make 2 copies of your passport but it is illegal to photocopy banknotes.  :police:

I'm pleased to report that on the last four visits to mother she has shown improvement time and again. Conversational alert and witty. This tells me she's got the grief and drinking under control and it's a relief to see that for now dementia is not an issue and the periods of symptomatic behaviour were alcohol driven.
She's making plans little by little so hopefully plenty of years in the tank yet.
Thank you all who showed concern and for the pm's

Some might remember my earlier ramblings about dabbling a stocks and shares?
Kier construction is the one I've followed and now into a third year.
I think I've made about 8k over 2yrs and set to make more from a share placement offer from them to raise capital.

My son has drawn me into Crypto  %%  as a result I have a playful investment in XRP since Elon Musk put a big investment into it.

Regarding my passport
This is photographed multiple times with my iPhone which also backs up to iCloud so it's accessible from any of my apple devices  O0

Good to hear your Mother is showing improvement. Must be a weight off your mind. It is a sad situation and has to be managed as best you can. Could come to all of us really.

I phoned to remind her to put her bin out and she’d had a drink. She drinks to console herself but it brings up so many sad memories that it’s counter productive. I shed a tear but I’ll see her tomorrow and she’ll be right as rain.

Thank you both  :-))

Some economising is to be expected. Over the past decade I've kept abreast of phone technology but today I made the final payment on my iPhone 11 Pro max so that's about 20 months. I normally trade in every year but now I'm focused on making this excellent phone do until my state pension in Jan 2024. I've never had a mobile as long as 4 yrs plus  %%  but I'm sure it will do  {-)

I don't want to hurry time along but when I get my pension it is surplus to our needs and we won't be saving it for the kids

Hope your mother keeps getting better.

For passports: Well technically I work abroad for at least 6 months of the year (or should do) and I keep copies of mine.  Rest assured so far not one single person will acknowledge a copy as ID apart from my works travel agent.  It's just a handy way to have a back-uo of the details.  I don't get the chance to renew mine by mail / post office. I've had to book the 30min turnaround at the passport office in Glasgow when I'm home the last few times.  Costs a fair bit more but not bad considering the validity.

For phones I'm still convinced you're at the mercy of the software.  I change every 2-4 years but the phone itself seems OK after.

Take care,

Rich

Mother is up and down but mostly up. House will be finished on Friday and she's making plans.,

I'm finding more and more that my right elbow is tender and I've discovered today that it feels very much colder than my other elbow. An elbow cuff is on order to address this anomaly in the hope it will improve circulation and reduce the pain/discomfort. I will let you know the result.

Andy I have an elbow cuff and it really helped me, just wish I could be less stupid and stop trying to lift heavy things (especially as I had a heart attack last November) Still my daughter and son in law live the other side village (yes we call it a village) so I have them on speed dial... :-)) :-)) :-))

As you get older things stop working in the way you are used to and sometimes altogether. So you have to adapt accordingly.

On the plus side it is better than everything stopping working as has sadly been the case for too many of our friends over the last year or so.

When I wake up in the morning, before I get out of bed, I run a system check.  I can remember what was working and to what a degree the night before, and a quick check around the bodily functions allows me to assess what tasks are on the cards for the following day.  I do find that things take it in turns to give you grief, like last week it was my hands that were stiff , this week not so bad but nervous co-ordination has gone astray , have not been able to bowl a decent wood to save my life. .

Up to press I have enjoyed my work free days always things to do keeping the grey matter working and only 2 pills a day. But one thing is for sure the clock is ticking  so enjoy what you can while you can.

I think our mothers are a good guide to our longevity. I'm quite realistic and I think I can knock out another ten years of boats before I become a spectator  O0

Today we booked the Shard and the Walkie Talkie view deck for our impending trip to London. The latter is free for 1 hour. The Shard is currently £25 no frills.
Last year we had to cancel but we plan on using the river buses hop on and off to see all the sites on offer. These are now run by UBER  %%  £18.40 each all day.
It seems a long time since our last stay at Crystal Palace and the purchase of the Lobster Boat kits.
