Yes Ralph, images are here....

We see about 2.2:1 straight cut gear ratio [16/36?] in your manufactured reducer, but the coding for the Gearbox motor CCH2230 does not confirm the actual reduction ratio

I imagine the luffing of the crane boom would be very slow?.....

What speed do you plan?....or is the threaded bar the worm drive?

[I have seen these drives in old Dockyard cranes......the mechanism is called Bottle Jacks and they usually work in pairs]

itīs simply a motor and my gearbox ratio 1:3 . I even  tjink 6V be enough, should not whip.

the best Image I have

This is the casing tube that the Bottle Jack 'worm rod' rotates in......

Depending on the arrangement, many Dock Yard crane luffing mechanism is controlled by this Bottle Jack

The axis of the casing tube is dependent on the angle of luff from the lower to the upped extensions, hence the angle of arc shown

So either the gearbox with the worm rod is pivoted, or the worm wheel is pivoted and the casing stays fixed etc

Ralph, when designing a gearbox like that, how do you know what centres to use for the gears? Regards. Brian

Thank you Ralph. The tables will come in handy.  By the way I have often thought about how to drive the rotation movement of a crane.  A worm drive would be ideal from a speed point of view but otherwise not at all appropriate.  Rather normal gearing for this function.  Haven't looked through your blog yet so it may have been considered here already. Cheers for now. Brian

Hello again

After the boom, I needed a change. That's how I built a mooring boat. Belongs to the Schramm company which also had the crane.

Now you can continue with the construction. for this I built I-beams 20x8mm. Unfortunately not to sale

Hello again. I have finished the second beam.  Was tricky because my folding bench is too small for it

Now assembling with superstructure

Ralph......

Many of these 2 jaw Clamshell crane buckets have a secondary trip wire to open the jaws

These too. Not shown in the film because the winch is still being worked on.

Super mechanism Ralph & working well  :-))  even in real life, the tripping mechanism is a delicate design function  :o
