Unfortunately the question procedure, had to be put in place because we were getting scores of spammers trying to set up accounts every week, possibly some were spam bots as the number of spam accounts has dropped significantly since it was put in place.
I am no dimwit either. I don't know who Princess Leah's mother is either, but it would take me less than a minute to find out on Google. Something machine intelligence is already capable of, expensive now but when it gets cheaper spammers will use this too.
Unfortunately some people may be put off by the questions procedure, but the spammer situation was unsustainable. There are more rigorous sign up procedures appearing on more and more Websites these days. There are simpler and more elegant solutions for security available, but that would involve a lot more money. Currently Mayhem is not a commercial Website as such, and most of the funding comes from kind gifts from members of the forum, and the site owners good will.
Please explain to your friend that we regret he was inconvenienced by the system, and hope that he can see why it is needed.
