Micro Whistle
« on: January 31, 2019, 01:14:23 pm »

I have been given I believe to be an action Micro Whistle.  I have no idea how to connect this or even what voltage it works on.  Any ideas please.

Thanks for the compliment, MF - but I suspect this is what the OP refers to https://www.componentshop.co.uk/micro-whistle.html
Of course I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time...

Thanks for the replies.  I had already tried the normal wiring and it didn't work so I was wondering if it needed another "gadget" to power it. It would appear to be defective.

If it's a P29 Steam Horn/Whistle then it can be repaired - send via Component-Shop. If it's the tiny cylindrical Micro-whistle thingy then just bin it.

This is marked "HPE-120", and I now have two of them that don't work.  I have put 6v to them but nothing.

I understand this now to be a piezo buzzer working between 3-30v.  Does anyone know if this is correct?

If it is round and black with 2 wires on it then this could well be what you got and they are only £1.50ea off Component shop

A quick Google suggests a HPE-120 is just the transducer - I think it needs an external/additional circuit (driver/exciter) to make it work.

If it is then applying a voltage to it is like putting a battery across loudspeaker terminals.

If of course there is additional circuitry then ignore the above
