There was nearly a quarter of an inch on top of my car yesterday lunchtime.  I thought of taking a picture to prove it, but by the time I had got my camera out, it was gone.

Listening to the weather advice on our local radio this morning the announcer advised that people in the South should not venture out in their cars or on foot and should listen for further bulletins and advice. People living up North should make sure they put their winter coat on .

Here in West Oxfordshire, about 3" of snow fell overnight. I drove my wife to work and the traffic was about 30% of what we usually encounter.

It wasn't enough to put me off, but I did live in Finland for 16 years, so have some experience of snow!

in kent I saw about an hour of snow last night at about 10pm, then it turned to rain, rained all night, then at 6am when I went out to the car to drive to work, turned back to snow - for about the first 10 miles, slush on the ground when I arrived at work, and thats about it.
whats all this about the Northern softies putting on overcoats, I carry on driving in this weather, and its still shorts and tee shirts for me.

The AA have warned that anyone travelling in icy conditions should take a shovel, blankets/sleeping bag, extra clothing (including scarf, hat & gloves), 24-hour supply of food and drink, de-icer, rock salt, torch, spare battery, petrol can, first aid kit and jump leads...
