Model Boat Mystery
« on: January 31, 2019, 02:41:46 pm »

...Hi Guys...

I have recently been given this wee model boat by a family friend...

Can anyone give me any information on it...It looks like a kit judging by the fittings...fitted out with como drills motor running on 6 volts...
It is need of a few wee repairs but everything seems to be there...

Overall Length = 42 inches or 107cm...
Hull Length = 38 inches or 97cm...
Beam = 5.5 inches or 14cm...

...Best Regards...Norry...

I don't think it is any current or recent kit. Maybe a scratch built model with commercial fittings. It looks quite old. What is the hull made of?

...Hi Colin...

The hull is Plank on Frame construction...

The Chap who gave me the boat said it is a model of a real boat but cant remember its name...

I am hoping that someone will recognise the real boat from the model...

Would it be an old PBM kit?

An old Private Yacht maybe.
Some were taken over by the
Military during WW1 by both sides.

The problem is that there were a lot of these old steam yachts which all had the same general arrangement. Boiler and engines in the middle flanked by fore and aft saloons with an open deck or cockpit aft.

This one is a bit unusual in that it has a very long forward saloon extending almost to the bow and a short after one with a recessed cockpit. If you Google Steam Yachts and go into the image section:

You might find something!

Originally one of my "must haves" but it went out of production ages ago.... managed to replace that "must have " with a truly beat up M H& B Seekadette so I'm happy!

Kind regards

...Hi Guys...

Due to lack of safe storage options in our house ( For 2 x 2 year old grandkids it is too tempting )... I have decided to sell SKEAN DHU on to someone who is more interested in this type of model boat...
My main interest is Model Tugs & Workboats...

I have no idea what this model is worth so I am looking for help in both its value & where to sell it...( I don,t want to sell it on E-Bay )...It will also have to be collection from Glasgow...

If anyone can help out please get in touch...

...Best Regards...Norry...
