Cannisters on small vessel masts
« on: January 31, 2019, 08:35:58 pm »

Quick question please.  My exertise is "ships" rather than "boats".  I am building a couple of models of smaller craft, and a common feature is a white (GRP?) cannister mounted vertically on the mast -very common on fishing boats, launches etc.  What the hec is it please?  I've trawled google for so long now -I obviously don't know the starting keyword and not got anyone handy to ask.  I've tried GPS, DGPS, EPIRB etc. etc. none of the suppliers or chandlers have any products close to what you see fitted.

You can see the cannister on the back of the mast on this picture.  What is is please?...

Thanks Baldrick!

No idea why I couldn't think of that application -makes perfect sense now why you see them on plastic or wooden boats like trawlers!  I know the types of reflectors -just never realised they were put in cannisters also!

Thanks very much,
