Getting near ready to paint lustys deck
« on: February 04, 2019, 09:39:59 pm »

I am getting to the stage of preparing to paint the flight deck and lines, should I paint the deck white then mask off the lines or paint the dark grey then mask it off to do the lines?, I will be using Tamiya acrylics and an airbrush for the lines  and Tamiya aerosol for the grey deck, Not sure which way to go with it. its 1/96 scale btw.

Have you considered using Trimline tape?

BECC do vinyl striping in a variety of colours and the pack has a variety of widths from .5 to 5mm in .5mm steps.

Yess, both the BECC and Trimline products are vey thin and give a neat appearance. The adhesive is waterproof and it can be a lot less effort than masking and painting.

I’ve used it too, easier than trying to mask off all those lines- one bleed in the mask and it ruins the look. Using the trim line/BECC products is easier and to finish it off just mist some semi-Matt or Matt varnish over the whole deck to blend it all together.

:-)) Thanks will have a look into using tape it does sound a lot easier, just don't want it peeling up later maybe varnish over the top later?.

Yes, as Nick says. Paint the flight deck grey. Add as many lines as possible using the tape (you might need to mask and spray some more complex shapes) and then mist all over with matt or semi matt varnish. The tape will blend in and won't peel off.
