I thought I’d share this interesting read I’ve just finished about the sinking of HMAS Sydney II.
If you don’t know the back story Sydney was a cruiser in WW2 that after some great success in the Mediterranean was recalled to home waters in Australia. During a standard patrol she disappeared and no trace of her was found at the time other than some German sailors found in a lifeboat claiming that they had sunk a British cruiser. The ship they belonged to what was the German AMC Kormoron which had also sunk in the battle with the cruiser.
David Mearns was hired by the Australian government to find the Sydney. He did and found the Kormoron too and piece by piece they found out what happened to the Sydney.
Anyway I enjoyed the book so much I bought his autobiography- Shipwreck Hunter- which I am starting soon. This is the same team who were hired by Channel 4 in 2001 to find the Hood and Bismarck.
Hope you might find this as interesting to read as I did.
