Stean engine Identity please
« on: April 01, 2019, 01:14:08 pm »

Our club has been donated this engine and the boat it came out to be sold for club funds. (The hull is a very old warship carved out of a solid piece of wood)
can anyone identify the engine please and approximately from what decade? The boiler is big and appears to be old.

Excellent. It appears then we have a Stuart Star manufactured between April 1926 and 1939. It certainly fits in with the age of the boat which we think may be a commercial hull from that era..
We are going to photo the whole lot and offer it for sale. Is it collectable I ask myself.? Perhaps someone has an idea of what its worth because we have no idea.

The engine alone would get about £250 on e-bay without much trouble, don't know about the combination of boat and engine.

I agree with George re what you would get for it, any chance of a picture of the boiler, and does it still have its petrol blow lamp ?

Hi. I will be photographing the boat/ boiler etc on Wednesday at the club (too big to bring home) The burner for the boiler is a heavy beast!  No blowlamp.

This is the boiler and burner etc.  (The engine is now on ebay)

My club friend describes the boiler as a 'pot boiler'  soft soldered. He is of the opinion the boiler and burner are basically 'scrap'. Doies anyone disagree, are they worth anything as collectors items? BTW The copper boiler has been wrapped with rubber and glued on! we pulled some of it off to see what was underneath.

You might be very lucky to find a collector, I would say scrap, but there are people out there in e bay land who might not agree, its worth a try.
Never heard of a boiler being lagged in rubber before !!!!!!!
