he Gazzalene,

Welcome to the Mayhem!

We've had many "issues" over the years, software & server crashes, members deleting their own photos, third party hosting sites shutting down or not 'playing ball' any more, etc, etc.

.... anything in particular you are looking for?

Because it is an almost free service, (it runs off what turns up when Martin passes the cap round) it can't do certain things that cost too much money.  Storing large numbers of great big files is one of them.  Some folks, unable to figure out how to resize pictures to fit, used extrenal services like Photbucket to store them off site.  When Photobucket decided to start charging for their service, these pictures, or the links to them, were lost, so the pictures were no longer available.  The pictures, and the links to them, are the responsibility of the posters.
This is true of almost everything on the internet, when a site stops being around because nobody is paying to keep it there, it, and all of the information on it, vanishes.
Of course, some websites, having had the rent paid in advance, just keep displaying old, out of date information.  A bit like an old motoring magazine in a doctors waiting room with adverts with prices in pre-decimal.

As Malcolm says, anything posted online can just disappear with no warning and a lot of valuable information has been lost that way.

There is still much to be said for the written word in the form of books and magazines etc. which are perhaps not valued as much as they should be in the new electronic age!

So its a Kind of "timed out " thing.
So long as I know its not  something I am doing wrong to view OR being new member.

No, but most people on this site tend to build working models.

There are Forums specialising in static plastic models and someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

Just to say the "cats" thing is almost certainly photobucket.  You can read up on what happened yourself a few years back, but basically many of us used it, then litterally one day were faced with a request for several hundred dollars to be able to continue using it.  Myself and probably tens (hundreds?) of thousands of other users just walked away from it.  Whether you agree with what happened is a different story.  It is a shame though how photobucket went.

3rd party image hosting (just to add to an an earlier post) may have nothing to do with the fact people are "unable to figure out how to re-size photos".  For many folk, like myself, it's personal choice on who keeps control of our data.  Personally I always used a 3rd party site also because it takes so much load of forum servers (I was not always thinking that way!).  It also means you don't have to be logged in to forums to view images which in my oppinion puts of beginners and potential newcommers.

...So nothing wrong with doing it either way, I'm personally an advocate of separate hosting, but also, you always have to accept the t's and c's and whenever you host something anywhere online you accept a bit of loss of control.

As to what Colin said, glad to see someone believing the same as me and I echo a similar thread on Model Boats forum at the moment, there's just so much information in books and magazines that is so valuable and lasts forever, but folk just seem to turn a back on these days.

Yes, it's still relatively easy to get copies of articles from Model Maker from the 1950s and the information is often still very relevant today.
