New to the forum and the hobby. Been looking at buying my first,want a "speedboat" self build wood kit.
When I see the contents of a kit apx 30" long the wood parts where not that complicated to replicate so I am now looking at trying my hand from a plan.
I can get most of the balsa sheet and strip or hard wood strip from my LHS BUT they carry no plywood.
I have seen some thin ply at "diy" stores BUT do not know if this is the right stuff for model boats?
Also the thinnest was abpout 2mm so I will need to get thinner. how is the best way to buy plywood? also seen poplar and birch mentioned?

I used to get mine from slec, but they seem to store it poorly and the last lot I had was very dry and brittle. I made the switch the end of last year to using Hobarts, their stuff is fantastic, very helpful and quick delivery.

Thank you for the pointer.
I was trying to edge away from mail order,given the length and fragileness with some of our delivery options!
but the nearest shop which has various thickness in the 30+ inch length is miles away.
the vendor you suggest was not one that was seen, slec was only one with stock!
