Another "What do I have"?
« on: April 16, 2019, 07:42:43 pm »

I have acquired this beautifully constructed model. I think it's probably a professional build, but I do want to finish it as it should be .
Approx 1300 mm, 12 kg of internal ballast. Can anyone give any clues as to the background/?
Is it a class?
Scale model?

Maybe a Robbe Smagard?  https://www.allradiosailboats.com/design/smaragd

If not, then definetily a Marblehead - probably one of these maybe?  https://www.allradiosailboats.com/advanced-result?s=do&clssId=12&loaFrom=1100&loaTo=1400&dispFrom=10000&dispTo=14000

Thanks for the thought Tarmstro, the keel is the wrong shape for the Smagard and transom is not the reverse slope.  It is a little too long to conform to the Marblehead rule, only 2 cm but still too long, and looking back through vintage rules would be a very heavy one, nearly double what most had.Displacement is like the Smagard, so my best guess s a "cruising yacht" in a similar mode to Smagard

Difficult to tell from the camera angle but it looks like one of Alan Horne's Nottingham J Class yacht kits -
clues being : the full keel with internal ballast,
+ it looks like Alan's signature two moulded gel coat colours white and dark blue?
he's the only manufacturer I know of that does this.

Check out his website. Paul

Thanks Paul, he has a fantastic website, the length of 1300mm doesn't seem to match his measurements. I have emailed him to ask. Again, thanks for the heads up. It may just be a good looking leisure yacht of "style".

Alan Horne has responded, not one of his.
