 Finally, today was the maiden voyage of my IMARA. The two motors, in conjunction with the mixer, doing an excellent job with adequate speed and tight turns. Controlling the throttle and the rudder at the same time even allows me to turn the boat on a dime. I am pretty happy with todays run.
I took a few pictures and I hope you enjoy them.

Hi Wilhelm

Wow, this is absolutely awesome, seh's such a beauty. Congratulations on such a stunning model!
Did she draw any water during her voyage? I'm always a bit worried seeing them sitting so low in the water.

@Tafelspitz
Hi Dom, no water inside, not a single drop. I was worried about the play between the shaft and the tube bearings, but stuffing the tubes with soft white lithium grease worked great.

Lovely pictures of a fine built model! I like the stern shot, you can sense the power from that grip in the water by sitting so low.
Well done and thanks for sharing!

After running the Imara for about an hour the motors got pretty warm.  Adding a couple of cooling fans took care of the problem.

Just a question Wilheim ....do the fans push air down over the motors, or draw warmer air away from them?

Just as in industrial applications, you need to expel the hotter air [ideally to atmosphere].......so plastic or thin perspex sheeting could provide a ventilation path for both inlet and exhaust air

We also see slots in each of the motors toward the motors end-plate.......however the perspex mounting plate and air flow appears to miss the alignment of the fans air path, however keeping in mind the pillow fans are designed with FAD [free air delivery] in mind & are not suited for restricted air paths

If you disassemble  <*< a domestic $20.00 Hair Dryer, you will see good use is made of plastic partitioning to channel the direction of airflow and minimise losses to unwanted paths

Hi Derek,
thanks for your comment. To answer your question, the fans push air over the motors.

I am aware of the difference in air flow of small cooling fans in comparison to channeled, directional airflow like hair dryers. You are correct that I should have extended the mounting bracket to move the fans above the motor ventilation slots. I was just to lazy to make another one.  >>:-( >>:-( For now, this configuration seems to be effective enough to keep the motors from getting hot. I will run the Imara a few more times this year and if better airflow is needed, I will make an extended bracket.

Nice amendment, Wilhelm!
That reminds me... I yet have to test run my steam engine with all of the windows in the cabin closed to see whether the fan is delivering enough air.
