Cruise Pics
« on: May 02, 2019, 10:48:59 pm »

Just returned from a cruise around the med (70th Birthday surprise from the wife)
Spotted several military ships at various ports.
Just thought I would share some of them, maybe good for reference.
If of any interest I will post the others.

I understand there is no immediate answer for the fate of decommissioned Warships, however it does not do justice to your Country's men & women who served on these vessels to display them is such states of visual decay <*<

That first vessel? has 14 mooring chains out so she is not going anywhere in a hurry

In Sydney harbour, we had a berthing called Rotten Row however in my time with the Department in late 80's, our decommissioned vessels were periodically rolled over with some grey paint...there was also a 24/7 Sentry [Naval Police Officer] on the quay to deter  >>:-( anyone from the general public in visiting

I walked on the deck of our once Flagship HMAS Melbourne......

Apologies ojays......

I certainly did not intend to criticize your images of these vessels, but the decisions of your Ministry of Defence in their financial responsibilities after your Warships are decommissioned and handed from Navy to some Government Department responsible for their fate

Derek, look more closely at the photos, nothing to do with our MOD as they are French ships laid up in the Med.

No offence taken.
I belong to a group (Weathered Models) and we're always looking for references with regard to corrosion colourings etc.
These provide excellent images of the shades etc seen in metal corrosion.

As an aside, the photos were mainly taken in Toulon, where apparently (French ships go to die).
This from a member of our group who served on many of the vessels when they were extant.
He was upset to see them in such a sad state.

Is this not the reason we build model ships, so they can be remembered as they were?
