Hi Taranis

Have just read this build from beginning to end and love it

One question I have is how do you keep the dust situation down?

I notice in a lot of your pics you have a band saw, a sanding disc etc but no sign of any dust or detritus.
I am considering having a room in the house for this hobby but am put off at the thought of the dusty workshop mess in the house?!?!

Ah ok ta!

Another great build log to read!

I guess just a decent vacuum in when using a machine?

Any other advice?

Another obsolete kit so no point starting a fresh thread.

I feel the need to work with wood so I'm going to knock this ages 14+ kit together to complement Shelley-Ann.

I have loads of paint left so she'll be matching cabin colour.

DaveM you are welcome to the plan when I've finished if you would like it  :-)

Thanks for the offer, Andy, but I already have several projects in mind after the current one and static models aren't my 'thing'.

Indeed and usually silly money or extravagant postage.

I got this one at just over £20 delivered thanks to a heads up from a Mayhem member  :-))  Jason.

Despite being rated as 14+ this should not be dismissed as easy  {-)

There are many opportunities to get things wrong and have a disaster

My progress so far

Soon I'll be totally soaking in diluted finishing resin plus a second coat  before sanding and painting

I was hoping today to take some pictures of the dinghy been towed behind my lobster boat. but the weather conditions were not ideal. Just a group of shots taken at the  pond side showing the Midwest dinghy kit. Hope this is OK with you Taranis?

First I prepared a resin mix of 3 equal parts

Then applied liberally to all surfaces

The seats will be kept as clear mahogany but the whole boat will be matching the LB cabin

Hi Guys
it seems that Dumas have produced a 32 inch Lobster boat kit that is almost the same as the old Midwest kit.I have emailed the link to Martin to post here as I cant cut and paste in in this reply.I hope he can do that for you .
Regards
Derek

Hi Derek yes its been covered previously. The actual hull is very boxy and nothing like the sleek lines of Midwest
http://www.dumasproducts.com/product_info.php?products_id=1313

Also for some strange reason it is 1:16 scale and plank on frame construction

Designed by someone who apparently has seen very few lobster boats. I offered some information to Dumas but they said they were too far along in the design/manufacturing process to make any modifications. Understandable that.

Based on my previous experience of a Dumas POF kit then I wouldn't consider this one. Good drawings and folksy "down-home, y'all" text in the instructions but the materials were rubbish, the die-cutting was atrocious and the design ill-conceived and impractical for a working model.
Ah yes - it was the 'Lord Nelson Victory' tug, which isn't a tug anyway. Save your money and avoid.
