I have seen the grain issue in other kits.Too bad. Perhaps they should have had a real builder on their staff.

Thinking about it just now it would be no great shakes to buy a piece of ply and use this deck as a template for a one piece deck

I know a company who can emulate a planked deck on 0.8mm ply, using a laser. All we/they need is a CAD file of the required part. They're called SLEC. Here's one they did for me recently -

All the lines for the deck supports need to be the subdeck thickness below the cut outs. It says to use a piece of subdeck to mark each edge and join up with a straight edge

The Balsa support strip may not be perfectly straight but after applying the slow CA I've used the steel rule on the line to butt against

Continuing with the instructions. This is a good point to fettle the cockpit deck to fit easily for later on. Not shown!

I would ordinarily be fitting the Keel and then on to the 6 Chine logs. I believe my custom prop shaft will arrive Monday to complete this. I won't be doing the motor mount instructions as per manual is they are not applicable to my longer prop tube

Hi Andy brings back memories. Lots of comments on my rebuild at the Doncaster M E exhibition last weekend. Not sure if you noticed my rudder servo is installed at the very rear near to the rudder post. Cable for this servo is fitted in plastic tube which terminates at a veri board near the rudder will post pictures.

Most likely with a micro servo hidden in a crate or behind something. I've drilled two 20mm holes through bulkheads to carry any wires below deck.
Prop tube arrived so I can crack on

No idea of my colour scheme yet so just grey primer for now

Back on track now with prop tube glued in and infil strips sanded flush.
Also marked and drilled but NOT glued in the rudder shaft

I've decided to change to one of the orange motors but too close to my holiday to order. Reasons being it is a lower KV and 4mm shaft which is easier to align perfect using a 4mm to 4mm tube

So following the plan we dry fit F1 and adjust before adding slow CA. Use the joint line in the two halves as a guide to centre on the keel

Then this part again after checking fit. ONLY glue to the keel NOT to F1 yet!

Then you can open the gap one side at a time, apply CA and push together

So they look like this and flush

Then fit this assembly exactly as instructed with the transom dry fitted and mark the position of the bulkheads on the keel. Then glue in place but not the transom!

It says to check the deck to keel with a square but personally I used my eye sight only by aligning the top edges of the bulkheads

Now the deck
Pin in place at the bow

Then fit a spacer either side of F3 (cabin window push outs) perfect

Press the deck down onto F2 and now glue the deck to both sides of F3 and hold until set

Then glue the deck to the bow and remove the pin.
Then glue the deck to F2
Working back to the rear centralising and gluing the rest of the bulkheads

Then fit the Transom

Here I've made up the frames with the help of the plan BUT don't trust the roof support spacers.Average them out so they are exactly the same port and starboard

I finished fairing the hull ready for planking but I'm now putting the curve into the cabin sides and using spacers at the front to overbend them. Should be OK when fully dried out after a soaking. Water is free if not in a hurry so no need to rush out for rubbing alcohol

Thanks Mark yes its a lovely kit but alas no more other than the last three bought by Mayhem members.
Still very much a lot to do so great value

Bobbing along behind, said I'd stick to one model but the lobster is a pleasant diversion
