Looking good Andy !
I remember spending many hours on early (crashing) versions of 'Google Earth' searching harbours along the coast of Maine for colour scheme ideas,
plumped for boring safe old white on my model, but I recall similar nicer pale greens like yours,
lots of light blues even yellow seemed popular in one area (poss. Bar Harbour?).
Looking at your pics, reminds me of one thing that bugged me at the time of building mine -
what a shame we have to paint the hull ! but the full size are all painted, hey ho.
Re the sail, looks like they want you to varnish it ?
this goes back to good old fashioned 1940's model yachting practice when they did varnish cotton sails - see VMYG website for info.
I don't recall doing this, might have used weak Tea to mucky it up a tad and mrs Zippy to sew a hem or two.
You can use teeny tiny brass eyelets to make the holes and stitch the seams or
my latest build - the small free sailing yacht, we were messing about with at Mayhem,
uses modern white kite rip-stop nylon sails,
whereby holes are melted with a hot needle and seams made with 1/4inch double sided tape.
Another idea - you could make an easier, cheats version and have the sail rolled up around the mast !
which is probably how the full size would spend most of its time - might look nice/different.
