Sealink Model Boat St Anselm
« on: May 27, 2019, 11:11:18 am »

Hi,
I am looking for some help with a Model of the St Anselm Ferry I have.

I am not sure of the model type, builders model etc, it is 4ft long,
It has 100's of small components on it, detailing railings, rescue boats and passengers etc
I would be interested to know if you think this would have originally been encased and what it would have been made for.
How do I find a value for it?
I am a designer and I bought it for £250 a couple of years ago purely because I love the aesthetics of it and have had it as a statement piece in my lounge.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Stuart - any pictures of the model please?

It may either be a builders / travel agents model or a scratch-built model.  There are certainly no kits available of this ship.
Cheers
Carl

Sticks in mind a similar kind of post on Model Boats magazine forum not that long ago? If that's not you there might be some useful info on there also. I think there were pictures also to maybe compare.

just consulted the sealink oracle (my dad) he says
Quote
Jim Ashby These were display models for travel agents. Can't be sure who made them, but recall that TechPro made some models for sealink. Possibly costing around £2k each. May not have been these. Models were named St Anselm, St Christopher and St David. Model of Galloway Princess differed in superstructure design. When at Charter House I had several models willed to me, one being Galloway Princess which I passed to office manager for display in reception. Some models were repainted for Sealink Stena Line logo, and some may have been repainted for Stena Sealink Line logo. What happened when Stena Line livery adopted l don' know. Ships renamed Stena Cambria, Stena Antrim, Stena Caledonia, Stena Galloway around 1991.

Thank You for all the information, and your dad, (good men) that's superb.
I think I did quite well getting it for £250, if they were £2k new. :-)
There is so much detail on it, which the photo's may not show very well.
I have seen other travel agent models in the past and they were a lot smaller, less detailed and encased, would this therefore have been for a head office travel company maybe? It seems in-between a builders model and a travel agents model.

I've got a memory of one of these models at a travel agent in Skipton, North Yorkshire, when I was younger. I remember I always used to go and marvel at it when I walked past. My memory may be making some of the detail up but I'd swear it was very similar so perhaps not worth discounting as an agent model, it's not detracting from the excellent level of detail if so.

if its that detailed it could be one of the techpro ones, my dad has said in the past they were quite good quality.

It's nice model - what do you want to do with it?   Convert it to RC?

I always remember the cruise ship and ferry models in the windows of travel agents and the warships Royal Navy recruitment office - they were awesome and highly detailed large models - i would stare at them for ages.   The Navy ones would change regularly (probably swapped between offices) and I'd always love to see the new ones.   I think it's what got me into RC boats.

Really sorry for my ignorance but what is RC?
I am unsure at present what I will do with it, I am quite happy to keep it but if it was worth a lot then I may reconsider. I am not in any urgency for a break up  {-)

RC - radio control.   How easy that may be would depend on if the hull is a fibreglass moulding of if it's a solid block of wood.
If there's space inside, it's big enough to easily hold motors & battery.
