Aerosol paint mix & international shipments
« on: June 03, 2019, 01:31:39 pm »

Would need some help with procuring the right paint mixes for my Leander class frigate project - used to order my paint from Colour Coats but regrettably they no longer ship beyond UK Mainland, and I believe Sovereign Hobbies don't either. Does any one know of a paint manufacturer who are still able to ship internationally ?
Would need the proper BS paint mixes and ideally in an aerosol canister.
Thanks for any help the forum could provide,

The weatherwork colour would be BS381C 676 Light Weatherwork Grey. If you can get RAL colours mixed up at your local car paint shop then RAL RAL 220 70 05 is a near colour (see attached).

If building post 1978, her decks would be Dark Admiralty Grey which Humbrol do as #5.

Thanks Mudway, very helpful. Would you also happen to have the RAL and Humbrol equivalent of the 1970's green deck colour (Brunswick Green I think it was called) by any chance ?

Thanks a million,

No Problem. The official deck green colour had no name being BS4800 14C39, BS381C 226 Middle Brunswick Green could be used if the BS4800 was not available. As you can see from the attached, the two RN greens are quite different. The RAL equivalent for 14C39 resembles it more than the RAL equivalent does of 226.
BTW, there are 3 Brunswick Greens > Light, Middle and Dark!

Some shots attached of 1/72 models wearing 14C39 decks.

 :-))  Thanks again Mudway,

Very helpful and some lovely photograps you've posted - do not think I would like to be on board of that Tribal in that sea state however, but the Type 12 is a splendid model, absolutely stunning and with very crisp and detailed bridge features.

Cheers

Have you looked into the Lifecolor line? One cross reference here: http://homepage.oninet.pt/modelismo-online/m_lifecolor.html

In Canada/Ontario they are available from http://alphaabrasives.com so they must ship internationally.

Rather irrelevant I’m afraid, the colours they mention used by the British are mainly RAF WW2 colours and there is no indication that any are BS colours.

Dark Sea Grey was used by the RN as alternate for 632 Dark Admiralty Grey.

The FS colour they quote for Medium Sea Grey which is or was used by RN helicopters is actually the USN Haze Grey weatherwork colour.
