Future/pledge Klear
« on: June 05, 2019, 06:23:46 pm »

Has anyone used Future wax/ pledge klear on their boats, I use it on my scale models for sealing decals, just wondered if works on models that get wet ?!

Thanks
Jon

It’s only an acrylic varnish, so it should be OK.

 Hi Jon,
as you say its great on decals and windows  or clear plastic on the likes of Airfix type models but its water based any prolonged contact with water  it will properly bloom ( go a milky colour) just like any of the quick drying water based varnish you see these days but others may know more and better then me. I know I would never use it on any of my boats.

I'm with Howard on this one.
I've also seen young soldiers use klear on their parade boots to avoid having to "bull" them. It looks fantastic, until it rains, and the aforementioned milky bloom appears!  :o
I'd definitely give it the thumbs down.

Regards
Ray.

Thanks for quick replies,  ref the boots I should have known that having done it in the past when I was one of the afore mentioned young soldiers!
Any recommendations for a humbrol enamel safe, water proof gloss coat. I tried Hycote double acrylic and I made a thread paint craze!

Hi again Jon,
For me I always finish mine in Ronseal Matt  or Semi Polly outdoor varnish over my paint.
         Regards Howard.

Settled for Plastikote Gloss clear in the end goes down very well and dried to a very nice gloss finish.
