I hope this is not considered dumb or rude, but regarding the "armour" plating referenced in the preceding photo. 1) For armour plating, why is it mounted so high on the hull? All other capital ships I've seen mount armour just above to well below the waterline. In fact in the photo, it appears to be mounted above what I would "assume" to be her armoured deck. 2) The photo shows that this plating is dished to much the same degree as the hull plating which leads me to believe that it is 1) soft steel, 2) not hardened plate.
To me this appears much more like hull strengthening strakes, very similar to those applied to Japanese cruisers and destroyers following the Fleet incident that showed up the longitudinal weakness of their design.
I realize that this is, in a way a moot point. The real point being to add detail to the hull, which will look fantastic, so please bear with my inquiring mind.

Hi Chris, I agree. Go with your plan. There is a nice photo of Tiger as completed, circa 1959, on pgs 294-295 of "British Cruisers, Two World Wars and After" by Norman Friedman. It shows her belt rather clearly. If you send me an e-mail address, I' try to scan them and send them to you, if you like.

Which images do you refer to? I can find none that have "dished" in plates apart from the normal ships plating, the armour belt defo does not have that feature at all. Also if you look at KGV class the armour comes up same as Tigers.

An it looks like im gonna have to cut the hull side to allow the boats recess cheers an its gonna be a devil  >>:-( to try an do a 45/degree bevel on the armour plate belt will see how it goes all best  :-))
