This is the part of modelling I enjoy, problem solving, I know you will get there in the end.  :-))

We need a little more info please regarding tiger (type of vessel, length, breadth, weight. No. of props and pitch/size). What speed controller(s) are you using?
Without knowing about your tiger it is difficult to give any advice.

Lovely to see her. thanks for sharing. sorry to hear of the motor/power frustrations - hope you solve it.   (on the bright side, at least the fuses are doing what they're supposed to...!)
she looks really impressive on the water - the clean detailing is super to see.  - do the signal flags spell out a message?  hope i see her in person some day!

HI JohnG
GLAD you like her yes she does look nice on the wet stuff an yes im only just now thinking about the motors but there is no hurry a yes the fuses were a little too good at their job but better than any damage in the ESC 's or such an yes if i rember rightly one line spells out tiger an the other the ships call sign if i have them right that is an yes hope you do see her in the flesh so to speak

The motors look like 380's !!!

540 65 turn rock crawler motors on 12 volts about 11,000 rpm (free running) would be the maximum rpm of 30mm 5 blade props and 35mm props 10,000 rpm.

Hi Chris, bit of a downer day for you, especially as I had a brilliant day at Bournville Navy Day.  Reworked Bristol was absolutely running spot on and lovely weather and clear flat water. .  50 ft you must be near scale turning circle for that.
Still good images from the day and better next time I am sure.

Or 4 of these at under a tenner each. 4800 revs, decent torque and low power drain.  https://www.componentshop.co.uk/mabuchi-555-dc-motor.html.html
I've a single one in a 12lb trawler with a 3 inch prop and it's got good pull from a standing start with a soft start ESC. :-))

For my 2p, I’d definitely go with 555 motors. I’ve had them in boats in the past drawing just a couple of amps on full bore :-))

Would those who advised fogman3 to use a 555 motor also suggest a 555 if the same prop was on a 1/72 Flower Class corvette or would there be a more suitable alternative for a flower class in 1/72?

Yes, you size the motor to the prop not the hull.  A 555 would do nicely to turn the 30mm prop on a Flower, but you might go up to an 8.4 or 9v pack for best performance.

Can anyone state a logical counter argument to NickelBelter's?

frogman3 et al.
I attach an image of 555 data which can be copied and pasted. The version on sale will be the 55-turn 3255

It doesn't show the power curve which peaks at 50% of the no-load rpm. To get a picture of that:- goggle motor curves

An easy to understand graphical comparison can be made with the 600, the drill motors or 385 by referreng voltage and related tabular data, up or down, to equalise peak power on each motor. I suspect the drill motors were overloaded in the last iteration.

A £7 infra red tachometer tells you in a second if a motor is overloaded. If the motor is below 50% of no-load rpm, gear down or switch motor or prop.

I know a RE 385 on 6 volts via a 30mm brass prop powers a 1/72 scale Flower Class Corvette convincingly.
