T12 Motor Advice
« on: June 18, 2019, 10:46:31 am »

A bit of advice please from anyone with experience of the above motor.

I'm starting to pull together the bits and pieces to build a tug based on the Damen 3110. it's around 1/25 scale and I hopefully intend to use the MMM 90mm Korts (a bit smaller than scale). So, was wondering if the above motor is man enough to directly turn a 87 to 90mm 4 bladed korts prop?  :-))

kind regards

Stumps.

Is a 3110 or 3111?
If memory serves the Kort should work out at 100mm for 1/25 Scale. Simon at Propshop does a 100mm Kort and a 97mm prop to match it, he also does shafts
perhaps you might get discount if you buy everything from him.
Id estimate the hull dimensions at length 48 x 16 beam

You have plenty room in that hull for any type of motor
I’d have a look for some car blower motors cheap, don’t pull mega amounts of amps
and designed to last years.

There are Bosch one’s listed on
Alexander Engel submarine website
180watts
3800rpm
40ncm torque
12v nominal

Now the T12/24 I’ve never used them so can not comment on them
Small compact unit, however there is very little spec available for them
Rpm i think is 4600rpm that’s all i remember.

Hi, every one has their own views but for me yes some say T12's aren't cheap  which is right. but as I only ever want to put a motor in once and they pull like hell I put them in all my boats that will take them I know I only have to put a motor and set it up once I also believe the ends are machined and not cast so don't crack that what I have been told. I can never understand how some modellers can spend hundreds of pounds on a build or kit and then put a six quid motor in.
as I say just my view which is one of many.

I primarily make Tugs and Cargo Boats so no boy racer stuff. Like Howard I swear by the T12, certainly not short of torque. Also agree with his point, quite often made on the forum, about saving a few pounds on a cheap motor for an expensive boat. As you are buying MMM Korts why not give them a ring and talk it over as this is probably the motor they put in some of their boats fitted with these Korts anyway.

Morning Gents,

Thank you all for the replies and by the sound of it the T12 might just do the job. 16-21 that motor looks like a goer too. and the hull dimentions are bang on ~ here's a photo of the hull I'll be working on.

My thinking about using an MMM korts is at that size the product is quite chunky, so won' look too out of place and besides it's under water and no one will see it :}. And, the smaller prop shouldn't knock the performance that much.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the link... I was just wondering if they were man enough to turn a prop that is almost 20 - 30mm larger in diameter. I think they will, but I like to check first :-)).

BTW, this will be my first boat build in about 30 years ~ I've spent the time in between building and re-kitting model aircraft. Thought this would make a change...

If you contact mobile marine
Ask for there recommendations as to which type of
T motor 12 or 24v
With the space you have in the hull 24v would be an option.
This belongs to a chap in the Netherlands i believe
1/25 Scale 100mm Schottel drives
Damen 3111
Have a look at his YouTube videos
He has working winches too.

Definitely one of my favourite big Tugs.
