Too many people and not enough land and resources will become the main problem in 20 years.
The migration of people to cooler areas will make the current refugee problem look like a small hiccup as more land is unsuitable for living.
Brisbane is forecast to be an indoor city by 2050 as it will be to hot to work outside.
Already 10,000,000 people are without water in Chennai
Remember the greenhouse effect will not end when there is zero emissions and the real outcome could be a runaway effect leaving Earth, like Venus, with NO life.

Lincoln has an odd cathedral - the left and right sides are completely different - it's even built off-centre so the door and nave are misaligned.

I think you meant Soylent Green! The Solent is usually a dull grey...

Looked at objectively, the human race is a runaway infection on the planet. One possible hope for the future is that as nations develop in prosperity the birth rate tends to go down. Whether this will bring about an eventual balance, who knows?

We all need to move to America. They only have "weather" nothing changing with their climate apparently.

Watch the 70's Sci-Fi flim Logans Run.

If you map the timeline of the Earths existance to a 365 day calender, then go to the last second of the last day, that's how long man has been on it. Several ice ages have come and gone, we are currently still coming out of the last one, according to what you read. We have a few million years left to either evolve or destroy ourselves. Planet Earth will still be here when we are long gone and in 10 billion years or so the Sun will engulf most of the terrestrial planets and Earth and then explode and the cycle will start again.

In the first week of this year, I was discussing an existential question with a Muslim colleague at work, he asked what I believed in and I stated that I was an atheist and if worse came to worst, then I have no problem with going to any hell that any religion shoves at me.

I stated I did not believe in any religion and as far as I was concerned I believed the following:-

There was nothing - then there was an almighty bang - and over the following few billion years, planets were created and are still evolving (13 billion + and counting), during this evolution black holes are created (and have been proven), these suck and compress the hovered pieces into a small tight single point, eventually all the black holes will coalesce into one super black hole and hover up the remaining parts.

All this material will not be able to fit into the same small space and would therefore eventually become so unstable that it explodes - therefore another big bang and it all starts again - and again - and again - ad infinite m   O0

Unfortunately you are wrong.
I think we will be lucky to have 100 years.

This is the most DEPRESSING thread I've ever followed on MODEL BOAT MAYHEM.
As there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop the eventual destruction of the planet there are just three things left to concentrate on :-
1) EAT
2) DRINK
3) Make Model Boats

Only one, SWMBO, as long as she keeps bringing tea and biscuits out to the shed/workshop at about 60 minute intervals.

I'm an ordained minister of the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.   I can legally carry out weddings as long as I am dressed in the correct ceremonial garb.   I can legally have my driving licence photo with me wearing my traditional head dress (a colander).

May the sauce be with you.

As long as you make it suitable for salt water sailing.   :embarrassed:

Lets look at the Colander principal to see what is happening in plastics mind

The well known scientific calculation for holes in a colander is diameter squared x 78.5 and all divided by the pitch spacing of the holes

so if the holes are 5 diameter and the pitch is 16 x 20....we see

5x5 [78.5]......= 6.1%
16 x 20

Yes, 93.9% of the mind power of member plastic is contained within the colander and only 6.1% escapes to the atmosphere

So the question we must ask ........'is the 93.9% of metal protecting him from the ever present global climate change, or is the earth being protected from the 6.1% of his mind altering thoughts?' :P

The colander is a safety device protecting the world from the astonishing power of my mind.     You've seen "Scanners" haven't you?

I wont be - my change will be to a dribbling mor0n,

Is the collander calculation off a tad - as the device is spherical the holes are not spaced in a pitch square pattern, in fact the one I have next to me has 21 holes in a asterix pattern x 8 = 168 the top set if worn as a pastafarian, has 33 holes therefore a total of 201 holes @ 4 mm diameter = 2,526 mm², the diameter of the device is 210 mm on the inside, 138562.2 mm² for the area of the 210 mm dia sphere /2 = 69281.1 mm² or 692.811 per 1% = 3.64% I believe of the surface area is open to the elements, not including the area around the lip which fails to cover the grey matter (dependant on the wearers head). But I could be off on my calcs as the collander seems deeper than the half radius - please confirm my figures

You are absolutely correct warspite in questioning the validity of the calculation, as I wanted to get just a ballpark understanding of the % energy retained in our member ''plastics" brain   %) , so I simply looked at a purely linear scenario

However, my colander purchased here in Australia....from I understand Indian manufacture has 5 mm diameter holes >>:-(

Having acknowledged this, I doubt the % difference between a stainless steel cone, round or Boller Hat design colander draped over ones head would  vary too much
