No problem, completely legitimate
Delivery reasonably quick
Payment by IBAN bank transfer

They don't communicate much  {-)  but that's nothing to worry about

Registered but system won't let me log in
They don't respond to any emails
Bank transfer for payment -im daft, not plain stupid!!  No way would I pay by that method these days
Very high postage costs shown on website, much higher than other shops for similar size / value items between same places

...not a good experience from me so far.  Shame, they have some nice things I'd like!  I'd love to get some stuff from them.

They had what I wanted and I only got negative feedback from people who had no experience.
I followed the instructions and got what I ordered at a good price including delivery.
I don't see a problem 10/10

Not available in UK

Given that I ordered at a silly time like December 21st and a Friday at that I think receiving before the new year was pretty good.

I have not had a bad experience with any German or Polish websites. Payment methods are not unusual for them only to us.
Knupfer is another great supplier
RB models too when they have what you want
Spain excellent too

Paying by bank transfer is a very common way of paying for all sorts of goods in Germany.

Safe and secure - especially with Hobby Lobby.  Ron Dean of Deans Marine knows the folk behind the company very well.

I'm in Romania and have ordered several times at Hobby-Lobby. The owner, Gerda Petrich is a nice guy, but indeed, they don't communicate too much by email. Try to call them. He speaks english very well.

Hi carl Bank transfer Safe, is questionable . one diget wrong and thats your money gone end of. Also the cost . My bank charges £10 per european transfer . For a small order this can add a fair bit. I have to agree with RST on the postage . I was going to place an order once. But when you added bank transfer fees there high postage aboute 20 + euros or may be higher I can remeber it sundely made the goods very expensive. I found the same thing in a diffrent shop ok a little more but could pay with pay pal and there P/P was a lot less. The order worked out a lot cheaper by a fair bit .
I do agree he has a great shop and great stuff but in the digtal age he needs a more modern way of paying . Even the German shops now take pay pal or cards.

I recommend you get a Revolut card
It’s a pre paid currency conversion card that pays the live interbank exchange rate and no charges for transactions only for cash withdrawals
I keep £ $ & € on it
Fairly quick to transfer back to your bank account if you want to

Had mine since it started a few years ago now

You need to check your own bank terms before buying. With RBS they cover on-line payments, no cover for phone orders and no cover whatsoever for bank transfers.  They're strictly for known people, not for shopping. Having been scammed for parts before by bank transfers, I heed the advice rammed down your throat left right and centre these days about buying things. Caveat emptor.

Doesn't help with hobby lobby not responding to enquiries though. Might work for some, but not being able to register on the provided access codes has been brought up before.

The app also stores every transaction ever made in whatever currency so if I want to buy from Gerda again the details are there and I don't need to re enter them all.
Every transaction is immediately notified to the card holder by text so easy to know if an unauthorised payment has been made

Intresting way a round bank transfer fees. But you are still not protected. Better way is for shops to move in to the 21st century and take cards or paypal.

@SJG001
I'm a retuning customer at Hobby-Lobby-Modelbau and have never had any issues with ordering from them. Neither have I had any issues by paying by bank transfer but yes the Germans need to see the light and start using Paypal. I don't know the UK banking system, but I can actually see that the Bank Transfer will go to Hobby-Lobbys account when setting it up in my online banking here in Denmark.
Anyway I just tried to setup a new account via http://www.hobby-lobby-modellbau.com/onlineshop/login.php without any issues at all.

Tica,

I have ordered from Germany before and paid by bank transfer before both within UK, Europe and worldwide with no problem.

It's more the issues I am having creating an account which is concerning - If the site was https rather than http I would not be concerned or if they used paypal / credit cards I would have more confidence due to protections in place.

All,

I have just emailed them to see if I can get a way round the create account issue.

Failing that it driving (+ferry) 3900 mile there and back or driving to Edinburgh, flying to Hamburg, hiring a car...... {-)

and I have no intention of taking up knitting... I learned from an Aussie the importance of having a reliable supplier you can trust.

Have you had a look at https://www.modelbouwshopnederland.nl/ also?

They have allot of nice things there also, never placed an order yet so can't comment, but I always thought their process looks alot more inviting.

Hi,
as an alternative I can recommend modelbouwshop nederlands as suggested by Rich.

have ordered from them several times over the past three, four years. Timely replies to queries, good delivery and they accept Paypal. And a pretty interesting rnage of items.
