The soldering of the rx went ok. Actually it's the esc that must be soldered. After connecting the battery thx tx led started blinking and was ready for binding.

In order to use the rx/tx rx35 and Devo 7e, the Devo must have a sw upgrade. According to the sol-expert web site this is a simple well described process. Yes...After a couple of hours on 'Google' I succeded i upgrading the sw and binding the rx/tx. After the binding nothing went well. I'm unfortunately not able to trigger any servo action from the Devo. There can be many reasons for this, but I gave up troubleshooting and plan to continue on a rainy day. Then I remembered that I have an old Tactic tx and and a corresponding micro rx. I never used the rx because the build-in esc has forward only mode, not of much use in a boat model.

However, the rx has two sockets for external servos. I connected an old servo, modified as esc, and standard micro servo for the rudder.Apparently this works. The setup is depicted here.

The connection between the motor and the propeller shaft proved to be to ridget and un-flexible.
Instead I used a short rubber tube as seen above. On the Youtube there is a small video of the first test on water. It went ok but modifications are needed.

The wiring for the servo-esc is way to long and must be refurbished in order to save weight. The rudder must have a 'bigger movement' in order to enhance the manueverability.

It's quite surprising how much equipment you can squeeze into a small hull, but try and ensure you have access in case anything needs changing out in the future  :-))

Access seems to be an issue with the PEBA tugs. I have the Hein and just getting ready to paint.

I am looking at a mixture of screws and magnets to allow the deck / fender to be removed.

Hmmm, bit of a dilemma that one. Is the fender removable or will it require a bit of surgery? The magnets could be a possible solution...

It will take a bit of surgery to get it to work
The deck to hull is easy - I have designed some 3d printed fitting to hold the magnets & deck in place.
The fender needs a bit more thought.

WOW - it would be great to see a photo or two of those fittings you've made, when you get a chance I mean  :-) .

Yeah, I know exactly how that feels, by the time I'm free I'm just too tired to to do very much at all.
Still, retirement is only a few months away now, then perhaps I'll be able to do more  :-)

I fully understand your concern regarding time constraints.
My retirement is 10 years ahead, but the kids have just left for 1 year of boarding school.
That should give some extra time.

With regards to hull access I decided to make the deck removeable.
The rubber fender wiĺl be glued to the hull and magnets will be used to hold the deck.

The bow fender will act as 'lock' between the hull and the deck held with 2 magnets.

Gluing the rubber fender to the lower hull. The clingfilm protects the deck from excess glue,
thus preventing gluing the hull and deck together.

Instead of using the modified servo as esc, I've wired the ER100 esc from the BASIC PLUS kit.
https://www.sol-expert-group.de/1-87-model-building/Micro-speed-regulator/Speed-regulator-ER100::622.html

The esc works very well enables very slow speed. Far better than the the modified servo.

In addition the to the servo i bought a new RX from tactic. I assume it's basically the same as the one I have but without build-in esc and servo's.
The steering servo is now attached to the middle hole of the rudder arm. This gives a bigger movement of the rudder given a specific servo movement.
