Where to start
« on: July 13, 2019, 11:05:30 am »

Hi all , back again with some novice questions, My plan is to build a 27 ft whaler, Ihave the following , plans , wood tools space and time , what I don't have is the knowledge,  Ihave facilities for cutting and thickness ing timber etc , the plan Ihave doesn't show any ribs on the clinker hull , the enlarged pics from my old naval ratings handbook shows 45 ribs and gunwales etc, plus The risings for the thwarts, now before I start sawing up wood do I need to make a mould upside down reduced in size by twice the thickness of the ribs , and I assume this mould would need a spine to support the keel again reduced in size to allow keel etc to be right height,
Or am I over thinking the whole thing, all help appreciated, as said Ican cut ad shape wood ok but knowing where to start would be a great help ,
Thanks fellas

You could get a lot of info from Dreadnought72's thread here. I am sure he would answer questions as well if you PM him.

Ok , thanks , had a look at that post , hood stuff , so I gather then the hull sections at the stations given would be the inside of the planks , I then form the keel and then plank it, remove from mould then sort the ribs out ?
Thanks again , please tell me if I,m on the wrong tack ,

Yes, that's basically it.  Here's another that might add to your fund of knowledge.
