I am having to replace speed controllers in a boat I’ve purchased however the wiring colours are almost always different in each speed controller I’ve seen compared In relation to the blue, black and red coming from my motors. Does it really matter which colour code goes where?

In short- don’t mix your wires!
In brushed systems
Red and black are usually the power leads from the battery- in some escs you need to make sure you don’t cross connect them to prevent shortcircuiting.
Other colours- usually blue and yellow go to the motors and these you can swap around if you wish to reverse the motors without any tx input.
Most escs should come with a set of instructions showing a simple wiring diagram, if you match up with what is currently in your model it should a relatively simple exchange of escs.


In brushless system
The same applies but you can move any of the three motor cables in any position to reverse the motor as long as it’s a motor cable- plugging it in a battery position would probably destroy it at worst,

No problem, I’m trying to set up a brushless system in my newish boat- I’m having one motor plugged in with all colours matching each position and the other motor with two of the motor wires swapped to reverse it. Fingers crossed it all works

It’s a steep learning curve that’s for sure.

If the motor runs in the wrong direction simply swap 2 of the wires around and it doesnt matter which 2 either and you WILL NOT blow anything up........MOTOR WIRE ONLY
